Norwich United open their second season at step four with a home game against last season’s play-off contenders Haringey Borough.

In fact, the Planters’ last competitive game was a 2-1 defeat at Haringey’s Coles Park ground, Christy Finch netting the goal in what was to be his final game before his close season move back to Premier Division Leiston.

The Planters have also lost the services of Matt Brown and Lee Mason, who left for Gorleston and Norwich CBS respectively, as well as long-serving defender Steve Shipley who has decided to hang up his boots after Tuesday night’s 3-3 draw in his testimonial against Cambridge City.

The Lilywhites’ late comeback saw the Planters’ 100pc pre-season record come to an end, but manager Steve Eastaugh will know all that counts for nothing as the season starts for real.

He was quick to add Wroxham duo Ben Lewis and Tom Rampling to his squad and has also brought in strikers Lawrence Cheese from Stalham Town and Lee Will from Kirkley & Pakefield, as well as midfielder Dan Crosby who has also joined from Stalham after impressing during a pre-season trial.

Crosby and Angus Mackie, a product of the club’s youth system, have both signed two-year contracts for the Planters this week.

Cheese faces a late fitness test, Shaun Wones returns to the squad after returning from holiday but Nathan Stewart is unavailable.

Haringey will provide tough opposition, the Boro finishing in fifth place last season, although they went down 2-1 at Plantation Park last August. They lost at Maldon & Tiptree in the play-off semi-final by the odd goal in a nine-goal thriller.

Meanwhile, the newly-formed U21 team travel to Cornard United looking to build on their excellent start last Saturday when they beat Team Bury 4-0 with two goals from Damon Cooper and one apiece from Sonny Carey and Daniel Hogston.
