Wes Hoolahan’s electric form has come as no surprise to one of the men to benefit most from the Irishman’s eye for a pass.
Grant Holt formed a deadly duo with Hoolahan during his time at Carrow Road, as the pair helped the Canaries charge to double promotions under Paul Lambert, so the City man’s form is no shock to his former colleague.
Speaking at the launch of new book Tales From The City, Holt said: “We all know how good Wes is and what he can do.
“He has the ability to pick apart defences with a single pass and sees things other players don’t. I was not surprised to hear how well he is doing. He’s an absolute dream to play with.
“It’s only at international level that he’s never really had a chance to do it, but now he’s proving himself at that level too.”
However, the talismanic striker does not see his former colleague as the most pivotal man for the Canaries, heading out of the international break.
Holt said: “The key man is Alex Neil. He knows exactly what his players are capable of and exactly what he wants them to do. It’s never easy coming down from Scotland, but he’s taken it all in his stride and it was an absolutely fantastic achievement to take the club back up to the Premier League in his first season in charge.”
Holt himself was back playing at the weekend after a long injury lay-off. The 34-year-old came on as a 66th-minute substitute as his Wigan Athletic side drew 2-2 away at Bury.
Holt said: “It’s nice to be back playing again, but it’s still early days. I’ve been out for a while so it’s just a relief to get some minutes under my belt.”
As for his old club, Holt is confident that Premier League survival is a fairly safe bet. He said: “Lots of those players have been there before and know what it takes to stay in the league. If they keep doing what they’re doing, they will be fine.”
