Alex Neil has told his Norwich City players to match the fire they showed at Bournemouth and the Canaries can be an unstoppable Championship force.

Neil’s reign began in winning style on the south-coast, despite Jonny Howson’s second-half red card, to inflict a first home league defeat on the Cherries since September.

City’s new boss joined his players on the pitch at the final whistle to salute the travelling support before delivering a simple message to his troops.

“I said to them in the changing room it was their work ethic which got them the result,” he said. “The quality is always there but are you prepared to work? Are you prepared to dig in and fight for each other and make sure you do the right things at the right time, clearing balls and putting your head in where it hurts. Really anything it takes to make sure you are not going to be beat. That is the big thing and I thought the lads showed that, which is really important to me, because the quality is not in question.

“We have good players, no question about that. They had to dig in and that speaks volumes. It is important.

“You have to have that to be a successful side and then we have that wee bit of quality as well, with Cam (Jerome) popping up with a fantastic goal. We know we have that potency up top.”

  • I was banned.......Fagen, banned for life apparently. With the help of a spade, a pair of bolt croppers and a cunning disguise, I've sneaked back into Stalag Archant to post this. I fear that my Arch enemy may unearth my tunnel before I emerge into the cubicles, so I'll be brief-ish. I've tried various means of communication and other research tools to locate the Gek Brouwermeister.....to no avail. I'd like to think he has suffered a similar fate to myself in which case he might sneak back in.....disguised. Failing that, it would only take 100,000 signatures on an online petition to get the matter if his reinstatement discussed in Parliament. There again, he might have opted for some winter sun in Teneriffe.....it wouldn't be the first time he took a mid-season break. There might be some truth in Foggo's theory, but, as Fagen will confirm, French is more my forte than German, so I can't really say. Cutty's theory sounds like a marriage made in hell, in fact the stuff of nightmares. Until I receive proof to the contrary, I'm opting for the Dingo scenario......it's just so Brewer, although given his penchant for a jar or three, he would have little use for the Alfa. Despite my misgivings surrounding the fate of Brewer Hebdo and my mourning the passing of his deliciously incomprehensible musings on the cubicle walls, it's good to see so many other veteran mavericks stepping up to the plate to fill the void. Just be afraid, if only a little afraid, for even as we speak, the man at Lincs' front door is sporting a long leather trench coat and a pair of jack boots. Surely, the Arch Censor could not dispense with his indispensable stats and his remarkable omniscience, could he? Meanwhile, here's to 3 points from Cardiff, hoof or no hoof. I kneel before Neil, and even though I don't really know him from Adams, I have more confidence in Alex than Archie. OTBC. Yours fleetingly..........Je suis Blaff.

  • Lincs Canary. Great postings but when I was ethered last season Archie sent me a 'naughty boy' explanation. I'm a good boy now. Malaga once again I find myself agreeing with you. For weeks I've been saying that if you earn what these guys get a week we'd all die for the cause. Motivation and work ethic which means 90 minutes hard slog to try and win. Look at Burnley and Leicester's last few games. They have both flogged themselves to death nearly and got results. We can do that as Bournemouth showed. The word we look for now is consistency and we'll make it to Dubai's 100 goals and PL again. Cardiff watch out!!

Or maybe they are all in the "village", Brew is prisoner number 6 leading the escape committee using cunning and flowery prose. Of course this post might never see the light of day. • Spot on Alex! As many here have been saying, that is something which has been missing and which is vital. Up to now some of our squad appear to have cultivated the belief that they are so good as to only need to turn up to win. As I have said before, just watch the best players week in week out and see how much effort they put in which, allied to their talents, brings the desired results and also helps to achieve consistency. Every player has to turn up and put in a totally committed performance in every game and for a full 90 minutes. There will be no hiding place any longer for those who remain complacent. Although I still believe our players are not as good as the pre-season hope, they are, however, perfectly capable of matching every team in this league and beating most, providing they put in the required effort.

They have a section operating out of the hospital, they are quite blatant about it, they even have direction signs. So watch yer backs lads and don't accept drinks from strangers.

  • Once motivated by AN I'd expect the entire squad to "up their game" and set a new benchmark of acceptable standards. I can't see the "team" now having an off day to be honest, individuals of course, but you can be assured AN, GH and MP will have carte blanche to rip into the team mid game for us all to see. It's just as important we see the passion on the touchline as it is for AN to stamp his authority down there at Colney. It's all very exciting init! ;-(

  • Sounds simple but if you have quality without the work ethic then failure beckons. Interesting then that our misfiring squad win their hardest away game of the season with a fiery display. So what happened? Was it an act of respect for NA, maybe down to Phelan and Holt who could work unshackled by the uncertainty of Adams ideas, or was it the new gaffer's motivational skills? A penny for the thoughts of Phelan on hearing AN claim credit for the win. And how badly did MP want the manager's job , was it a shock when he saw this outsider arrive and how strong is his ongoing commitment especially when AN has brought in his own number two? Cardiff will be a stern test of any new found resolve, players and backroom staff alike, and I hope it will be a massive thumbs up. Then we can concentrate on ruining Ipswich's season.
