Everton midfielder Steven Naismith is poised to undergo a Norwich City medical on Monday to finally complete a protracted transfer from the Toffees.

Naismith and his family travelled to Norfolk on Sunday afternoon ahead of finalising a reported £8m switch to join Alex Neil's Canaries.

Neil gave his clearest indication yet, after the 3-0 weekend Premier League defeat on the south-coast, that City's game of patience had paid off to recruit the Scot's long-term target.

'I played against him. He is a whole-hearted player, so was I,' said Neil. 'He played for Rangers at the time and they were certainly one of the top teams in Scotland. He is a good player, no question, and the one thing he will give us is energy and he has goals in him. He scored a hat-trick against Chelsea earlier this season and he will certainly help us.

'There has been a lot of talk about this deal but until things are complete and it's over the line there is not much to say. It has been nearly there for the best part of two weeks now so we'll wait and see. He is an established Premier League player who has played at this level for a number of years. He has got goals, he is versatile, he can play off either flank, as a number nine or ten, he is experienced, he is determined, he has good legs, he is an international, he is a good lad off the pitch. There is a host of reasons why I am interested.'

City are also in the latter stages of completing a transfer for Wolfsburg defender Timm Klose, with fresh reports in Germany the 27-year-old will sign a three-and-a-half year deal for £8.5m.

The duo would join Matt Jarvis, Ivo Pinto and Ben Godfrey as permanent signings by the Canaries in this window.
