Media reports in Switzerland suggest Wolfsburg centre-back Timm Klose is closing on a £7.7million move to Norwich City.

The German-born Switzerland international centre-back, 27, has been a bit-part player for the Bundesliga club but did start their last match before the winter break, a 3-1 loss at Stuttgart.

The defender has already been linked with the Canaries in the current transfer window but the speculation has gathered pace after Swiss broadcaster Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen claimed Klose is joining City.

The reports claim that the former Nuremberg defender is keen on playing in the Premier League, as he tries to boost his chances of making the Switzerland squad for Euro 2016.

Swiss German-language daily newspaper Blick is reporting that the deal is worth €10million (£7.7m) and that Klose will have a medical on Monday.

  • Getting Klose. Anyone got any idea how much we are selling Hooper for? Lets hope its for at least £4m to inject into the Carra kitty.

  • Charlie Austin has signed for Southampton for £4 million. So that is yet another one of our "targets" we can forget about. Seems we are unable to compete in the market even when the fees are relatively low. Naismith? Doubt we are actually even in the frame. If we are in competition with at least one other Prem League club then we will almost certainly lose out. I have said before we don't have the financial clout to compete for established Prem League players. Which is why we have to take chances with up and coming players and players from overseas. If Watford can find them, so could we if we had the scouting system and contacts. As it is we seem between a rock and a hard place; unable to attract anyone who would be on our wish list and failing to find the gems that are still around elsewhere. Hope I am wrong but this transfer window does not bode well. The worst scenario would be we end up making panic buys. But it is beyond doubt we need to improve the squad in key areas. So it looks to be a difficult ask for us.

  • Agree Spanish Canary - fact is we cannot afford the kind of players many would, in their dreams, like to see in a Norwich shirt. Established Prem League players are unlikely to leave their respective clubs, let alone become viable to clubs like us. We have to remember even the likes of Bournemouth have massive financial clout due to their Russian billionaire owner. We are one of the poorer clubs in the Prem, like it or not. So there is no point in us chasing the ubtainable. Instead we have to buy wisely and that means taking a chance on lower league and or overseas players. But that doesn't mean we cannot unearth some gems. They are still around, some determined to make a name for themselves at top level.

  • This looks like a step in the right direction at last...a bit more quality at the back that's desperately needed...hopefully, we can bag Naismith as well and I think we'll just about be there and will stand a really good chance of staying in the top flight (three points needed at Bournemouth today to pull a bit further away from the 'drop zone'!!!) • agreed reg - on 2 points - but there appears to be a positivity here (and relief?) rather than hyperbole that we have the new messiah (although after santayana if he plays CF for Malaga we should sign him too!). His CV look better than anyone who currently plays for us and that is the driver for my positivity. As mentioned Demichellis (spelling?) and Cahill could also be described as "bit part" players ands we'd take both of them tomorrow if we could afford them. On GoN he has be excellent this year - but was moronic at stoke. However there are a (vocal) few who for some reason do not rate him at all. IMHO they are wrong.

  • Spot on Spanish. We have a history of taking "but part" players from bigger clubs - notman, mulryne, mcveigh etc. This is no different to taking a reserve from spursman utd etc. There are some here who want us to take in bamford or pritchard who have little\no experience (I'd take pritchard, not convinced on bamford)..... Trouble is if they get it right people can't bash the board (message and club!)

  • Orson Welles drank too much port and smoked too many cigars, nonetheless, if this chap turns out to be the third man, that's fine by me as long as the first two are not Peters and Lee. Just sign him already. I shall be coming back tonight after the match. Be good to go for a pint on tuesday lunchtime at the Coach and Horses if anyone's up for it. I might even sing the theme tune from the Band's the Last Waltz. Keep me posted, oh and here's looking for a handy three points. If West Ham can do it and we put our minds to it, then I'm sure we can. Just don't mention Gary O'Neil. Doh!

  • Buy a CB, Buy a RB etc. Buy you cheap skates, look overseas etc is all we have heard for weeks now. Then the manager and the Board try to grant our wishes and still people are not happy. We know little about this guy but still its a mistake. Gary Cahill is a bit part player at Chelski, would you turn him down, do you really think teams will let their first choice players go? Give the new guys a chance, then if it does not work out by all means whinge and moan, I know some of you will regardless.

Klose may prove him wrong. Also agreement with Riki's Bowie comment. Life on Mars one of the greatest pieces of pop music ever. Interestingly it was kept from the no. 1 position by Brew favourites Peters and Lee. Welcome Home.

  • As regards all these rumours of players about to sign.....the betting has us 1\5 on to sign Naismith, 13\8 to sign Patrick Bamford and 2\1 for Gayle. Didnt think Bamford is one up front type of player - nor Gayle for that matter. Could AN be thinking about changing to 2 up front and reverting to Ramsey's wingless wonders?

  • Archie doesn't seem to want me to reply, I have had a couple of attempts and am bored now. In a nutshell, he was only a Basel youth team-player, was OK at FC Thun who are a small team. He has not set the heather on fire in Germany and has lost his place at Wolfsburg to Dante. He is not a regular in the Swiss "Nati" and needs top class exposure like Lafferty. The Swiss think it is great for him to get the chance to prove himself in the Premier League, if he does it would be good for him and us but it seems like a risk. The locals like the €10 million price tag as it shows their guy must be some good, but he is not a Shaqiri, Basel's favourite son.

  • Ooo-er, that sounds like an awfully big sum. It is quite a big story in the local paper, Blick am Abend, largely because they know he needs top-class challenges to get him ready for the European Championships, sound familiar? A €10 million price tag makes the locals feel good. He only played for Basel youth team and FC Thun are a small club though they do seem to punch above their weight. His career in Germany has been up and down. He is a big guy and athletic but has not really set the heather on fire at the highest level. Like Lafferty really needs a good club showing to get ready for the Euros, and Dante is preferred to him at Wolfsburg. He is a contender for the "Nati" as they call the Swiss team here but not a natural starter at the moment. This would be a big opportunity for him to finally make his case, which is good, but it could also be a "van Wolfswinkle" like deal. I would love to be proved wrong but it is quite a risk IMO.

  • trev57 - a €10million bit part player in a champions league side is nothing to be sniffed at. looking on the bundesliga site (as mad says wiki not always reliable) he's started 7 or 8 appearances in the league this year. Which - for what ever reason - is more than Ryan Bennett. Wolfsburg won their champions league group also (including Manchester United and PSV) He played 1 game in full and was sub in the others. So he's on the fringes. And in January a player with that pedigree, for that price, is a safer bet than a "prospect" from the lower leagues. I'd suggest it's a sign of intent.

All we need now is a creative No 10 who can give us something different to Wes when he is not working for whatever reason then we have a decent side who can hopefully survive this season.
