Everton are reportedly keen to complete Steven Naismith’s transfer to Norwich City, to free up funds to sign Ukraine star Andriy Yarmolenko.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is keen to sign the Dynamo Kiev winger before this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France, when the 26-year-old is expected to shine for his country and potentially increase his transfer value.

However, the Daily Express claim Everton will only make their £21million offer once Naismith’s £8m switch to the Canaries is completed.

The Scotland international was reportedly close to joining Norwich at the end of the previous transfer window and speculation about the move being revived has continued into January.

The former Rangers forward has scored four goals in 13 games for Everton so far this season, to take his total tally for the club to 26 goals in 123 appearances.

  • Nice one Waclor! Haven't seen such insightful lyrics since the sixties. Waclor Zimmerman for president!! Someone suggested Peter Crouch on loan again. If there is a loan space that might not be such a bad idea. At least he doesn't have the "er, where's Norwich" attitude of some more geographically challenged strikers being suggested.

  • Where are posters getting their info on Naismith giving 100%, when he barely ever starts a game? I suspect much of their knowledge is based on 5 minute snippets from MOTD, which prove absolutely nothing! On that sort of evidence, VOO must be worth 10's of millions :( If we were to loan him, or buy at a bargain price then maybe he would add a little to our midfield, but anything more than 3 or 4 million for a 29 yr old mid-table reserve seems dumb. We already have Dorrans and Mulumbu proving why other managers let them go. With Jarvis returning, Brady playing out of defence and VOO offering both competition for Redmond and cover for Wes, there is no lack of creativity in our midfield. The reason we fail to create is because our fragile defence leads AN to field 6 defenders to 4 forwards. (7:3 last Saturday) Get the back four doing their job for 90 mins, (that means either cover or competition for Seb and Ryan, and the end for Witts and RM) and that will allow Gary freedom to get forward or warm the bench in exchange for another forward facing midfielder. Add a young, hard working lone striker for up front, and the midfield will be holding possession and creating chances like we were at the start of the season.

Some of the dire idiocies from individuals who seem to have serious chips on the shoulder are embarrassingly unfunny. Serial under-achievers I suspect aching for a bit of attention. Why not just email or telephone each other and clear the Board??

  • Trust me signing Steven Naismith will be the best bit of business since signing Darren Huckerby! This lad is not only a goalscorer he's also a leader on the pitch and has real star quality. Also has real aggression which we lack at times. Come on David McNally, Delia & co get this deal done quickly so we can get him in the team. We desperately need a high quality centre back to go with Ryan Bennett & Seb Bassong, and its not fair for those two to be the only defenders realistically capable in this league in our squad.

  • DerbyCanary, while Naismith has a great work ethic and is certainly more tenacious than other att mids in our team, he is no more creative. Redmond is just as creative due to his pace worrying the full backs, though could certainly improve his game through work rate. Jarvis certainly has more Premiership assists than Naismith, and he's probably playing second fiddle to Brady at the moment. I don't see an upgrade on what we have. GossVolley, I'm turning my nose up at a top half of the table Prem substitute. He hasn't held a starters role in all 4 seasons at Everton. Norwich shouldn't be targeting average teams cast-offs.

Yes, Sky still insisting that there is a bid in from Bournemouth for Grabban. They are also rumouring (no such word, but I like it) that Wednesday want Hooper on a permanent deal. Like Naismith as a player, but seems to me that his signing might make the mid-field a touch overcrowded. Perhaps Waclor and Dingo might like to add Finisher...Finisher...Finisher to their refrain?

Not sure that Virgil van Djik is as good as maybe we thought he was. Scottish Premiership football is not a good yardstick. But he does look promising. For sure, we'll be fortunate to get through this season without injuries or suspensions to our sparse stock of CBs. Why not convert Laffers to a CB? He'd be good. Little chance of picking up yellow & red cards. We once used Gary Doherty as our Big One Up Front, so why not try the reverse process? You know it makes no sense. ITMIT.

Afobe may have been the answer but \as he's looking likely to be out long-term with the Bournemouth knee curse soon there is no point in thinking about what could have been. Whilst the fee looks high Grabban is being quoted for similar - so ask yourself which of the two would you prefer........ see suddenly it looks an even better signing.

It seems like Everton are holding us to ransom on Naismith and like others have pointed out £8m for a 29 year old is toppy. I would rather he came on loan and prove his salt. I would sign Exeter City striker Tom Nichols for the future and why don't we get Crouch back on loan? He scores goals and knows the league and was a success last time at CR.

  • Norwich are lacking a certain nous on the transfer front. This type of signing is exactly what we should look to avoid. Whenever a club is keen to sell you one of their players, it is because they believe he is not good enough for their level. We're both Premiership teams, and 2 different managers have assessed Naismith as not good enough for the first 11. Canarywary, you say he is proven in the Premeirship, but the vast majority of his Premiership career has been as a sub, for me this doesn't qualify. While AN has the players running through brick walls for him (to his credit), his knowledge of the transfer market seems lacking, and unfortunately the club don't seem to be able to help our young manager with the right support staff. This signing would be a complete lack of ambition, and we've already been outmanoeuvered on a better option (Afobe).

As other posters have observed, the Toffee fans on the Liverpool Echo board don't want him to go and a signing like this would be a step in the right direction. • Lets hope we get Naismith in. However considering we also look set to Sell Hooper, Grabban and Lafferty - you can't help but think we will be signing at least x2 forwards during this window. However If everything goes down to the final day of the window again then i'd be very worried that Lee Darnbrough isnt quite up to the job. Remember how Burnley struggled under him to get anybody in at all. It seems he is struggling in the very same way for us. So far we signed a right back but we already had x3 in Cafu, Whits and Wisdom and also a left wing who was already on loan with us. I'm not sure this early business that was promised is mounting up to all that much. It looks like being another difficult window! not that we expected anything different! I don't blame the senior board members or manager, I'm sure they are doing everything in the correct way. I just hope we manage to also sign the obvious proven centre back we need by the end of the month. I also hope LD proves me wrong.
