Neil Adams has warned his misfiring Norwich City players reputations count for nothing in the scrap to get out of the Championship.

The Canaries were widely-touted as one of the pre-season promotion favourites after relegation from the Premier League but two league wins in the last 10 have shoved them to the fringes of the promotion battle.

“Reputations don’t count for anything. It is what you do on the day,” said Adams. “We have a lot of players here who played in the Premier League last season. That is not enough by itself. If they play to their potential they are more than capable of beating any team in the division, and the other relegated sides would say the same thing. What we do know is we have players capable of better than we are getting.”

Adams’ squad limped into the international break after two painful away league defeats at Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.

“We know that can’t go on. We have two home games now and this break has come at the worst time,” he said. “After a result like Forest it will be hard to take but we have to start winning games, we have to get on a winning run.

“We know we are capable of being at the top of the table but we have to see games like that one out and finish teams off otherwise we will stay in the position we are now.

“A few weeks ago we were top and it’s not nice to see where we are now. We certainly have fightbacks in us, because we have shown that on numerous occasions, and we have to get back to that. Players can make mistakes, they can also produce very good performances but the mistakes are killing us.”
