Harry Toffolo was taken to hospital after a clash of heads during the second game of his loan spell with Peterborough United on Tuesday evening.

The 20-year-old Norwich City defender went down just before half-time as Posh took on League One leaders Burton at London Road.

There was a delay of over seven minutes as Toffolo was attended to on the pitch before being stretchered off.

He was later taken to hospital as a precaution, according to the club’s official Twitter feed.

Posh were losing 1-0 at the time – and that’s the way it stayed.

Toffolo only joined Peterborough on loan last Thursday after completing a similar spell at Championship outfit Rotherham, for whom he made seven appearances.

He made his debut at high-flying Gillingham on Saturday, playing the full 90 minutes as Graham Westley’s side went down 2-1.

The 20-year-old has one City first team appearance to his name - the 2-1 win at Rotherham in the second round of the Capital One Cup back in August.

Meanwhile Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen will miss next Tuesday’s clash with Norwich City at Carrow Road and faces a spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed he had sustained knee ligament damage in his side’s 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace.

  • Seemed quite nasty - fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Obviously no impact on our current situation, but never nice to see. More relevantly, it can surely only be good news that Vertonghen is out for our match with Spurs. I don't expect it will have much impact on the end result (particularly if we can't keep it tight in defence), but you never know...

  • Good luck, Harry, for a speedy and full recovery. On another matter, assuming NCFC remains in the PL for next season, with all the money then sloshing about they really will have to address the wage structure. This would then open up some interesting possibilities. Thinking back to the past, BCFC were sometimes good at picking up players who had in some sense passed their best but were very effective (Peters, Channon) though there were other less effective ones (Chivers). Anyway, with AN using Naismith as a second striker because he is more that than simply midfield, maybe he is undergoing a conversion. Torres is out of contract I believe in the summer. Anyone any thoughts on who might be in the frame?

  • Unless you play for a Jose Mourinho team Trevor. Nasty injuries both and Vertonghen's was painful to watch. Get well soon

  • I agree MB, thankfully the medical teams now get to protect players as soon as is necessary so hopefully Harry will soon be back plying his trade. He undoubtedly has the talent to succeed in the game, hopefully with us but if not ewlsewhere in the game.

  • Just saw that on the BBC match report summary. Looks like young Harry is OK. The powers that be are very careful about dealing with head injuries. Good luck, Harry.
