Matt Jarvis is in line to make his Norwich City return at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow night.

The wideman has been sidelined for almost three months after injuring his knee during the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Manchester City. But he could make his long-awaited comeback against Stoke City after boss Alex Neil confirmed the 29-year-old is fit enough to finally be involved again.

The Canaries manager said: “Matt Jarvis will be involved in the squad for the game at Stoke.

“He’s a good player. Not so long ago he got bought for just over £10million and he’s showed his qualities at other clubs. He certainly had a real impact for us when he first came in and we’ll be hoping that will happen again.”

Jarvis made seven appearances, scoring two goals, before his impressive start to life at Carrow Road ground to a halt. During his time in the treatment room, Norwich made the winger’s loan move from West Ham United a permanent one.

Neil has no fresh injury worries to contend with following Saturday’s 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Man City. The trip to Stoke will however come too soon for new signing Ivo Pinto.

Neil added: “I think Ivo still just needs to do a little bit of adapting to the English game.

“That’s not based on anything I’ve seen. It’s just the fact that he’s come off a mid-season break and hasn’t been playing for the last two or three weeks. He’s also going from one culture to another, which is completely different for him, and we’ve got other guys who are competing and doing well at the moment at right-back.

“I’m just going to try and get him up to speed as quickly as we can and we’ll look to include him.”

  • Trev, Vindicated was a (poor) attempt at sarcasm- and is still more likely than Charlie "I want to stay in London" Austin. The Brentford CB wants to go up north accriding to Read Norwich. Geography is a cruel mistress. Satanyana is a non starter given his death. And it appears Everton are stalling over Naismith. Gayle? No thanks...... So that puts pay to all our hopes..... glad I'm a keyboard warrior and fan not DM, AN et al!

  • mkcanary, welcome, it looks to me that you'll fit right in here. I think you'll find ALL 6-pointers apply to BOTH clubs, that's the definition. (I'm aka Sarky, especially towards the end of the day; it comes from reading too much rubbish in these posts). I agree with those questioning "... right backs doing well...", although I do believe Wisdom was improving with every game before injury. Now play Pinto before he's fit and lose him for 6-8 weeks with a torn hamstring :(

  • What's happened to the Tom Lees and Sam Byrom rumours? I was really hoping that we could've got one of those two. The Steven Naismith deal looks to be stalled and the Dwight Gayle rumour is gathering pace. Don't know what to think about this one. For a start he's got a hamstring injury and Palace want £10 million for him. Way too much IMO. Vidic is a non starter as far as I'm concerned. He's well passed his sell by date. Why do you think he's been released? I'm still confident that AN will get his man or men but it I wish he'd hurry up. I must say, reading his body language, he seems very relaxed and calm. I think he knows more than he's letting on. I'm convinced we'll have a couple of players in the next few days. Happy to have MJ back.COYY.

  • Iva Pint is not match fit or up to speed for the English game? Why in the world did we buy him? Who on earth is doing well at right back? This is the first time that I have thought Alex Neil has been caught spouting rubbish. Will Iva Pint be ready by Easter?

  • Wiv, I thought Ayala should come back after he played so well when Boro beat us at home last season. But he was rubbish at Wembley, so I'm not so sure now. If we get Victor Sylvester to liven up the midfield, could we get Peter Silvester back to bolster the attack? Saw him the other day. Still keen to tell people how prolific he was in front of goal. To be fair, one goal every 3 games was not bad. Wonder if he's still got it. I'm sure he could show Mulumbu a clean pairs of heels..........but then so could I, probably......Hello, MKCanary, good post. Agree we'll need more than 40 points. Have you thought of giving up your day job? Most of the MOGs on here did, well the ones that weren't sacked. What possessed you to sign up to these cubicles? Has your local branch of MENSA closed down? (That was Mad Brewer's excuse.) Anyway, I'm sure you'll make lots of friends on here. Tommy Custard thingy is looking for some apparently. Beware the "likes of" Paddy Davitt, his boss Obergrüppenführer Powles with the red pen. Archie is the name of the beloved proprietor of this august publication. • Thanks OTFBC. Agreed the Bournemouth result is great for us not only points wise but hopefully will help in knocking their confidence at home ready for Saturday but am sure they will be up for a game when we visit them, yet another 6 pointer game in both clubs eyes. We just need to keep our momentum going as I feel with the top clubs dropping points this season we are going to need the minimum of 46 plus points to be safe rather than the standard magic 40 points that everyone speaks about

I am sure Alex knows the need of the much needed CB but please be paitent I'm sure whoever it might be will sign, just remember it's about adding quality and improving the squad not just adding numbers. It may not be till the end of the window till we get our man as other clubs may need to find a replacement and this has a domino effect which involves many clubs. Have faith we will get our cb that we desire eventually!!!

I don't have any in mind, but to me we should look to get the best we can afford and that is probably quite a bit of $. The calibre we need however would probably also be in demand from bigger names than us and there lies the problem. This is where the scouting needs to do its job.

OK some may not have been the success that we'd have liked and we didn't throw money around like Bournemouth (who I believe are in trouble over FFP rules) but we certainly signed people.

Which is, I hope you agree, Bonkers. If this was unclear, then that is my error. We do need a CB, but we need the right CB. Caulker and James Collins are mooted n these boards but not for me. The "there must be someone in the lower leagues" - but no names. I trust the board and the manager are looking and will deliver.

He should be nicely rested....and quite a few of our players have been on that since October anyway. And no Tony we didn't miss the boat in August...there wasn't anyone on it.

  • I know what you're saying at El, someone else wrote on another thread that given the lack of CB options in this country that leaves eyes to Europe. Given the number of leagues there and divisions, finding cover that a. hasn't been approached by a rivalupper tier club b. wants to come to Norwich and c. isn't being touted at silly money must be like finding the proverbial needle. Added to those things to consider, we have the head of recruitment from Burnley, warranted, it's made even harder! I know Martin at CB isn't a choice we all relish but I think AN has learnt that we can't play attacking football if it falls to Martin to play in that position. The only reason we shipped so many goals is when he played CB Martin was part of that attacking front. Also, we didn't have Rudd in goal. However, I agree with you, I don't want Martin back as CB and I think Seb needs a rest.

If anything happened to Bass we'd be in immediate poo. That's only one of many reasons why your "myth" might be reality. We have a fantastic young manager and they should back him imo.

  • Derby, re your skinflint myth: I'd call it brinkmanship at best. They want to get away with it as cheaply as possible all the time which is why we will never establish ourselves in the PL under the current ownership. Do you seriously believe we don't need a CB (even a £3m one from the Championship ie the lad from Brentford) as at least cover?

We do have a history of January purchases - Earnshaw, Ashton are two prominent examples. McNamee also I seem to remember and Huckerby....... There is a myth perpetuated on these boards that our board are skinflints who love money more than the club. This just isn't true. Shelvey is a great signing for Newcastle - they need a CM - we don't, so not certain what your point there is.
