Alex Neil insists Norwich City must be fearless at Carrow Road as he prepares for his home debut this weekend against Championship rivals Cardiff City.

The Canaries have hammered Huddersfield and Millwall in recent times and Neil is demanding the same ruthless edge to bolster their promotion push.

“Why be scared? That is the bottom line and how I look at it,” he said. “Why try and be defensive and get picked off 1-0 or grind out a dreary 0-0 draw? No way. I’ll go for it. That’s how I look at it and that is how I want my players to play. You have to take the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition but I am a big believer if we know our tasks and it works you don’t need to tinker with it too much. Looking at the squad we have got I would be more inclined to let them worry about us.”

Neil can expect huge backing after last weekend’s maiden win over Bournemouth and the Scot aims to channel that goodwill into overwhelming the Bluebirds.

“The away fans were fantastic so I expect nothing less than the home fans to get behind the team,” he said. “We’ve got to give them something to shout about and make sure we are putting in as much passion and effort as they would as supporters. The team have to give them a performance they deserve.

“We’re eight points from the top of the league so it’s not easy to make that up but if we can gain a bit of momentum, get into a rhythm and start picking up wins you never know where it can take you.”

  • With his Scottish team he had a 56 per cent win rate. With us he has as 100 percent win rate. Quit now and be the most successful Norwich Manager ever, statistically. The prospect of a home defeat on his first home game in charge is too awful to contemplate, hoping for an emphatic victory!

I wonder why Archie cannot learn to forward slash? I suppose his cocoon is so comfy that backwardness is the way forward?? Btw, the third name on McNally`s short list was Dustbin Hoffman. 2nd was Ronny Corbett, and 1st was Mini-Me. Beehave!

  • For NMTD (and Timbo), I`ve just been down to our local "Open all Hours" hardware shop and bought Eight Candles, already. Shouldn`t be allowed on a Friday night. Are we.. Men or a.. bunch of goat-eating surrender manqués? If we can use our midfield triangle for the next two games, we`ll get 6 points. Star performance. It could be something to feast on. We could take Succah from that. Succot and see? Already... This is InSeder knowledge.

Let us hope he will boldly go where no-one has boldy gone before ( in a welter of Roddenberry split infinitives ) . Of course with HIS accent , he'd be better cast as Scotty ; - " Scotty , take the lift down to the engine-room " - - - " But it's Awfu' Heavy Captain ! " . Doc MCoy would be handy right now for all our sick and injured " No serious injuries Jim , but I dont like the look of Mr Spock ; - but then again I never did ! " .

And NCFC awake from the kick-off so we dont give away a silly early goal . Will Fu-Manchu be there to watch his re-clad team ? The faithful City fans deserve a lot more effort from the players than has too often been the case.

  • PS, Dubya, the 100 goals is still a possibility, but I think even you have given up on the 100 points! If we do get 100 goals we should get sufficient points for auto promotion - say 84 minimum? That still means 44 further points from 21 remaining games. Quite an ask. No pressure, Alex! ;-)

  • DJ_F, you beat me to it! Good ol` Dubya`s always been the supreme `potimist`, but he`s a gool ol` boy, no doubt! In the depths of our decline under Krughton he sent me, free and gratis, cases galore of his Premiere Cru Pollyanna Potion. It worked, but the hangover was relegation :-( On Mike Phelan, I wonder if his role here is just to aid the transition? Does he really want to be here permanently? After all, he seemed quite relaxed about being out of work post the Fergie Dynasty. Perhaps he`s cut out to be a mentor\guru to fledgling managers, and a consultant to CEOs? Perhaps he mentored NA into realizing he wasn`t going to cut the mustard? Mabe that was what Royal Uncle Joe was intended to do... Mentor, observe, report back & recommend action to Machianalli? What we need to see from our team now is some real exuberance. Press the opposition, get in their faces. It`s that old guff about genius being mostly down to perspiration over inspiration. You need both! Btw, Dubya, that top Vatican job is a nailed-on cert for Timbo! Oi vey Maria.

  • Yes, Adams did indeed talk up attacking football. The problem was his team selections and set-ups were so often unsuitable to that philosophy. In particular he rarely played out and out wingers on both flanks, and meddled around with the front players constantly. In addition of course many of the players did not give him the wholehearted effort which was required and time and again we were found totally wanting in defence, our counter-attack was woefully slow and too often our midfield did not weigh in to support the front men and our attacks in general. Hopefully Alex has given all the players a big wake-up call and won't tolerate anyone not giving 100 per cent. I also hope he gets the team balance right with players on their correct sides etc., something Trevor Keith has highlighted many times.

Tomorrow we'll see the effect on a team who have been given the hard word this week. As for Canterbury and his comparison with NA. Yes AN is saying the same as his predecessor but the last 15 minutes at Bournemouth showed he MEANS it! MP's body language will be interesting to watch tomorrow.

  • Can't really see there being a 'gung ho' approach setting up with an over balanced attack minded squad. We have to build the foundations from the back through midfield first. CamJam and Hoops up front with width should stretch an inconsistent Cardiff team that have only won twice at Carrow Road OTBC

  • Would like to see City really going for it against Cardiff and starting with three up front. If we can smash them at Carrow Road tomorrow it really will signal the new renaissance. Once that belief within the squad is back we can strike real fear into the opposition and teams will realise that they are going to be put to sword when they come to CR. Looking forwards to seeing City rocket back up the top of the table by mid-Feb. OTBC
