Any hopes of keeping Angus Gunn at Norwich City already look to be getting smaller after the goalkeeper was linked with Stoke City and Celtic.

National newspaper The Sun claim former Canaries boss Paul Lambert would be keen to have the England Under-21 international on loan from Manchester City next season, although that is likely to be dependent on the Potters avoiding Premier League relegation, with current number one Jack Butland being linked with a big money move to Liverpool in the summer.

Or the 22-year-old could follow the path of another former CIty loan keeper, Fraser Forster, in following up a successful Norwich loan with a spell in the Scottish Premiership and Champions League with Glasgow giants Celtic.

Gunn has kept 14 clean sheets in 38 Championship games this season, only Sam Johnstone of Aston Villa (15), Cardiff's Neil Etheridge (16) and Derby number one Scott Carson (17) have kept more.

The report also claims Scotland are trying to persuade Gunn, the son of Canaries legend Bryan, to play for Scotland as he is yet to play a competitive game at senior international level – although was called up to the England senior squad as injury cover in November and was on the bench for a 0-0 draw with Brazil at Wembley.

However, that is at odds with previous suggestions from Angus and Bryan that the Norwich-born keeper is keen to play for England, having been capped 26 times at youth international level. He is currently first choice for the U21s and in the squad for a friendly against Romania and a European qualifier against Ukraine during the international break.

Brazilian keeper Ederson is the established number one for Premier League champions-elect Manchester City and head coach Pep Guardiola also has Claudio Bravo, a £15m signing from Barcelona, under contract until 2020 so Gunn's chances of appearing for his mega-rich parent club look slim.

City are set to be left with Northern Ireland international Michael McGovern as their only experienced goalkeeper cover in the summer, with Paul Jones out on loan at Exeter and coming to the end of his contract.

However, academy product Remi Matthews has played a key part in Plymouth turning a relegation campaign into a promotion push in League One so the 23-year-old is expected to be in contention at City next season.
