Burton boss Nigel Clough plans to make it a long night for Norwich City’s players and public in Tuesday’s Carrow Road Championship test.
The Brewers’ crashed to a 5-0 league defeat at Leeds on Saturday, but Clough insists the strugglers’ will target a clean sheet.
“We need to keep it quiet for an extended period at Norwich. There will be 25,000 cheering them on, and we need to stop them getting that first goal,” he said. “We want to get our first away point and we are looking for a clean sheet or if Norwich score then to make sure they have had to work very hard to do it. We also want to be a threat and not just sit back and defend for 90 minutes.
“I don’t think Norwich have hit form yet. They had a good win on Saturday at home but with a new manager coming in during the summer they have had a bit of an upheaval. Norwich is still waiting for some of their signings to hit top form so I’m not sure what we might face tomorrow. They are more than capable and have an awful lot of threats in their side.
“This is where the Championship has improved and clubs haven’t just got one or two players who can hurt you but five or six. It’s an uphill task for us every game and we can’t be below par.”
Clough is adamant there will be no hangover from his side’s Elland Road mauling.
“We said to the players that if we get results like that against us we just have to move on and get over it,” he told Burton’s offcial site. “There’s no point analysing it. They were better than us. It’s one game we have lost - one game out of 46. It was more about how good Leeds were as we couldn’t do anything to stop them. They were excellent from the first minute.
“They are a very good Championship outfit who haven’t conceded a goal at Elland Road. We were a bit sloppy at times and gave the ball away needlessly but the gulf in quality was there for anyone to see.”
