Alex Tettey admits avoiding the scourge of Luis Suarez is a major plus for Norwich City ahead of the Premier League trip to Liverpool.

The FC Barcelona hitman inflicted major damage on the Canaries in their last top flight spell, scoring 11 goals in five games and becoming the first Liverpool striker in history to plunder three league hat-tricks against the same opponent.

Tettey was part of that carnage, and Suarez's departure to Catalonia can only boost the chances of Alex Neil's current crop.

'We are very happy Luis Suarez is not at Liverpool right now,' said the Norwegian international. 'It is good Liverpool sold him because it seemed like every time we played them when we were in the Premier League the last time he seemed to score three or four goals. If you take away three or four goals then maybe they only manage to score one or we keep a clean sheet and we score more than them. It gives you goose bumps to go to Anfield and play in a stadium like that.'

Tettey is not fooled by the mounting pressure around Brendan Rodgers and his players after a lacklustre start to the domestic season.

'It is a little bit unfair. Liverpool is a big team and they will always get pressure from the media if they are not winning games,' he said. 'I don't think that helps us in that way. We have to go there and be at our best to get anything because they are good players. If we do not play our best football then we won't get anything. We have to be strong, don't allow Liverpool to play their game and see if we can keep a clean sheet. This is what we as players wanted last season; to play against the best in the league. I am personally looking forward to the game.

'It is going to be a tough battle. They have good midfielders who like the ball and who are very good in possession.'
