Norwich City’s Nathan Redmond never considered jumping ship in the summer after being touted with a swift Premier League return.

Redmond was prepared to stay and play his part in the Canaries’ Championship promotion bid following interest from Stoke and persistent reports linking him with Southampton after the club’s relegation.

Redmond will deal with any fresh speculation in the upcoming January transfer window in the same manner he has fended off rumours since bursting onto the scene as a teenager at Birmingham.

“I am no stranger to that type of pressure because I have had at Birmingham and dealt with it in the past,” said Redmond, who is with the England Under-21s squad for this week’s friendly against Portugal’s Under-21s.

“For me I always wanted to stay here but being a young lad it was tough seeing a lot of stuff going on around my name.

“I was always talking to the gaffer and what he had planned and towards the end of last season we had a really good chat with just the coaching staff and David McNally and the players and we all knew the goal was to get straight back up.

“I am still young and I have played a lot of games. I have a lot of time to play in the Premier League. If I can do it here by winning the league that would be the best thing.”

Redmond was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 Championship defeat at Forest and the wide player admits it is still on a learning curve.

“A lot of people forget I am not yet 21 but I am a fully-fledged starter in the side,” he said. “I have been happy how it has been going on a personal basis with a few assists.

“I’m a little bit disappointed not to have scored but that is the way it goes sometimes. I know I have the ability to score goals and it is only a matter of time.”
