Jonny Howson insists facing the Canaries for the first time since his protracted summer move to Middlesbrough will not be a sentimental affair.
Howson returned north after five years at Carrow Road and was man-of-the-match for the Teessiders in the weekend Championship draw at Fulham.
City sporting director Stuart Webber went public in the aftermath of his Boro switch to make it clear the midfielder wanted out, citing his ‘unprofessional’ attitude during pre-season, but Howson is not interested in a right of reply.
“I think whenever you play against your old club these things (about being a special game) are going to get mentioned,” he told Boro’s official site. “But once you cross that white line, if selected, I’ve got a job to do for the team.
“Things will have been said before and after the game. As I say we are going for three points and nothing different.”
Howson is yet to get off the mark for his latest club in nine appearances, but impressed at promotion rivals Fulham.
“It was a tough game. We played well in patches,” he said. “The bottom line is we know we can do better but we showed great character to go a goal down with five minutes left and respond. With the quality we have in the squad and that character it is a good sign. We got a point and we quickly move onto Tuesday night.”
