The defender is on loan at Breidablik until June 30 as he gets some senior experience under his belt, after having the one-year option in his contract triggered.

Efete has started four matches so far to help his temporary team to sixth place in the Icelandic Premier League after six matches of the campaign.

“It’s been a good few games,” the 20-year-old said. “We lost our first two but now we’ve won three in a row. We’re on a winning streak so now we just want to keep going and push for the European places.”

The former Crystal Palace youth player, who has represented the Democratic Republic of Congo Under-21s, also weighed in with a goal which proved to be the winner in a 3-2 win at Víkingur Reykjavík.

“To score my first goal was a great feeling,” Efete continued. “It was an away game but the fans were there, and the goal was for the manager (Miloš Milojević) who has been good for me since I got there.

“I’ve got a good relationship with him and with the players too. They’ve all been really welcoming so I’m enjoying the experience.”

Efete was a regular for City’s development squad last season, starting every Premier League Two match and making a total of 36 appearances in all competitions.

“I thought it would be a good opportunity to show people what I can do in a first team environment,” he added, speaking to City’s official website. “I played a lot for Norwich’s Under-23s last season so coming straight here meant I’ve not really had a break from football.

“The style of football is different here. The people are different as well, but very nice and I’m getting used to everything and learning new things about the game. I want to play as many games as I can while I’m here and see where it takes me.”

• Former Canaries academy goalkeeper Marcus Beauchamp has signed for National League South side Hungerford Town.

The 19-year-old won the 2014-15 U18s Premier League Save of the Season award but was released by City last summer.

He signed a one-year deal with League Two side Newport County but didn’t feature for the Welsh side.
