Norwich City starlet Josh Murphy scored the sixth goal of his season-long loan at MK Dons but couldn’t prevent his temporary team suffering a painful defeat at Bolton.

The Championship’s bottom side won 3-1 to pick up just their third victory of the season, with Murphy curling home in the 89th minute to set up a tense finish, only for Shola Ameobi to calm Wanderers’ nerves late on.

The 20-year-old winger’s twin, Jacob, missed Coventry’s 3-0 loss at Southend in League One due to a minor strain.

Another of City’s FA Youth Cup winners, Harry Toffolo, was in action in the third tier though as he made his loan debut for Peterborough United. The 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Posh lost 2-1 away to new league leaders Gillingham to slip out of the play-off places.

Elsewhere in League One, City goalkeeper Jake Kean could not prevent Colchester losing 3-0 at Scunthorpe.

Conor McGrandles made the first start of his loan return to Falkirk, claiming an assist in a 1-1 draw at Livingston in the Scottish Championship.

Young City defender Cameron Norman started again for resurgent National League North side Woking, in a 1-1 home draw with Halifax to extend their unbeaten league run to seven matches.

  • Shame about Russell Martin but I have to agree with 'johnty'...RM's time is up!!!...We just cannot risk losing anymore goals and ultimately points, through his sloppy and static play...when Henderson swept in to make it 3-2, RM was just standing there ball watching (along with Pinto I might add), his dreadful back pass has been coming all season (why we have this incessant but worrying need to pass back all the time putting ourselves under unnecessary pressure, I just cannot fathom and sets my nerves jangling?) and against Bournemouth, he was skinned alive everytime...we can't even afford to have him on the bench anymore!!! :(

  • A recalled Murphy still wouldn't get a game if all the wingers were injured as that place would have to go to Martin, who must be accommodated week inweek out regardless of his ineptness at RB versus Bournemouth or the horror show at CB versus Liverpool. Alleged that Bennett threw a wobbly when the team sheet was announced on Saturday. Not surprised as the middle two should be Bennett and a fit Klosse with RM and Bassong on the bench. Hope that Bennett isn't left out to teach him a lesson in the Grabban scenario repeated.

  • Get Murphy back in training here why are all our young top players out of reach? Look AN is not God and the defenseman has to be Klosse not RM he's made too many errors and cost us the game..again! Tettey is essential also.
