It's been a long road back to form and fitness for goalkeeper Tim Krul but the Dutchman has earned the faith of his team-mates as Norwich City's number one.

That's the view of Canaries defender Timm Klose as the former Newcastle favourite continues to play an important part in the eight-game unbeaten run of Daniel Farke's squad.

Krul suffered a serious knee injury in October 2015, on an artificial pitch while on international duty in Kazakhstan in October 2015. A loan spell in Holland with AZ Alkmaar in 2017 got his career back on track, before spending last season as back up at Brighton. Only two keepers in the Championship have kept more than the four clean sheets the 30-year-old has managed so far this season, with a fifth snatched away late on during the midweek 1-1 draw at Derby.

'Tim is a great guy,' City defender Klose said. 'He's experienced as well and you can see on the pitch that he tries to push us every time, we try to push him.

'We try to be the triangle at the back (along with Christoph Zimmermann) and he showed some great saves, he kept us in the game (at Derby) and that's what you want as a defender in periods that are tough – that your goalkeeper is there in those important situations.

'That happened (on Wednesday) he was there always, he was awake and he saved two or three really good balls. And I think that's what he needs, he's getting there and I'm very happy for him because he's a great guy and he deserves it.'

Klose had headed City in front at Derby with his first goal of the season as his personal good form continues, having played every minute of the league season so far.

The 30-year-old also regained his place in the Switzerland squad and is hoping to retain his place for Nations League games against Belgium and Iceland during the upcoming international break.

'I worked hard in the summer to be fit,' he added. 'I'm in an age now where things can happen very fast and I don't want to allow that to happen.

'I want to stay fit, work hard, mentally and physically. You need to stay on your top level because we have another 35 games to go.

'In my head I want to play every game, touch wood, obviously that's my goal and that's what I'm pushing for.'
