Norwich City fans want new sporting director Stuart Webber to go back to his former club in the Canaries' search for a new head coach.

David Wagner was the resounding winner of a Pink Un poll asking supporters who they would like to see Webber install as the club's new head of first team affairs.

More than 1,700 supporters took part in the poll and Wagner polled 42 per cent of the votes – almost four times more than second-placed Fleetwood Town boss Uwe Rosler (11 per cent).

Webber will be under no illusions as to the task he has undertaken after watching Norwich capitulate at Huddersfield on Wednesday night and the club faces a big battle to win back a frustrated fanbase.

Webber has been given 'carte blanche' to do what he feels is necessary to get the Canaries back on track and the appointment of Wagner would be a massive statement of intent.

Judging how difficult the Terriers made the chase for Webber's services, it would also not be without serious fall-out. If Webber has identified Wagner as the man to turn City's fortunes around then he is likely to be forced to wait until the summer with Huddersfield firmly in the race for automatic promotion.

Domestically, Wagner is arguably the most sought after manager outside of the Premier League and would be a major coup if the Canaries could tempt him to Carrow Road.

Webber could have to look further down his shortlist with Uwe Rosler the current bookies' favourite for the post.

The former Manchester City striker has been a big hit at Fleetwood after ill-fated stints at Wigan and Leeds.

Ryan Giggs came third in the poll with 10 per cent of the vote with the former Manchester United assistant boss still looking for his first job as the main man.

Paul Heckingbottom, who has done an excellent job at Barnsley on limited resources, was fourth on nine per cent whilst Aitor Karanka polled six per cent of the vote.

Alan Irvine, the man put in caretaker charge in the wake of Alex Neil's sacking, received just one per cent of the vote and judging by his comments in the aftermath of the defeat at Huddersfield, isn't in the running for the job.
