The appreciation being shown for Wes Hoolahan has provided some welcome nostalgia but Norwich City are hitting the right note with their planned tributes so far.
That is the view of Canaries fans voting in our poll at Pinkun.com, asking what would be a fitting permanent tribute to Wes Hoolahan at Norwich City?
Plans are being made to give the Irishman a memorable final Carrow Road game, against Leeds on Saturday, which will bring the curtain down on a decade of sterling service.
However, many fans are also discussing the prospect of a permanent tribute to a player who has provided so much enjoyment for supporters across his 10 seasons in Norfolk.
Retiring his squad number, 14, has been suggested by some while others feel a statue of Hoolahan and fellow legend Grant Holt would be a welcome addition at Carrow Road.
Naming a stand or lounge have also been suggested but many feel Saturday’s game and the promised testimonial which will follow in the future are enough.
Retire the squad number 14 permanently – 14pc
A statue outside Carrow Road – 19pc
Rename a stand at Carrow Road – 10pc
Rename a lounge at Carrow Road – 26pc
None of the above, a testimonial is enough – 31pc
We also asked City supporters if they felt this summer is the right time for Hoolahan to leave?
The Canaries have opted to announce the former Republic of Ireland international will not be getting a new contract this summer now, to ensure supporters have a fitting opportunity to say goodbye to a hugely popular player.
That shows the club’s hierarchy have learned from the anger created by Darren Huckerby’s exit 10 years ago, when the winger’s contract situation was revealed after the season had concluded.
It also provides some welcome respite from a Championship campaign which is drifting to a mid-table finish but the majority of more than 4,000 voters felt City have got the timing right.
Yes – 67pc
No – 33pc
