Grant Holt feels he did nothing wrong when leaving King’s Lynn Town for National League side Barrow less than a month after signing for the Linnets.

The Norwich City legend was on a weekly contract at Lynn and has taken the opportunity to join one of his former clubs in his home county of Cumbria – and step two levels up the non-league pyramid.

“They always knew I was going to try and progress and go up, at the time King’s Lynn didn’t want to give me a year’s contract, which was their option, and that’s just the way it is,” the 36-year-old striker said.

“Like in any walk of life when you get an opportunity to go up, I did it the right way, I spoke to (Lynn boss) Ian Culverhouse, who is the person I have to speak to and Ian spoke to the chairman (Stephen Cleeve) and that’s how it’s done.

“There’s been a lot of inaccuracies said, I’m not going to get into a big debate about it but there have been things said which weren’t right – but that’s football at times, things get twisted sometimes and that’s my only disappointment with it really.”

The Bluebirds confirmed the signing on Thursday after the Canaries legend had completed his seven-day notice period on his Linnets contract. The centre-forward went straight into training with his new team-mates ahead of Saturday’s game against Macclesfield.

Holt – who scored once in three games for Lynn – has been signed as a player-coach by former Forest Green Rovers boss Ady Pennock, who was appointed Barrow boss last month after being sacked by League One side Gillingham.

“As a coach and as a player you want to play at the highest level that you can,” Holt continued, speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk. “And to go back to Barrow as well, where I’ve been before and I know what the fans are like and I know what it can be, it was a fantastic opportunity to work with a very good manager who knows the division, whose been promoted out of the division and has got experience.

“So it’s an opportunity to go and learn, I spoke to the relevant people at King’s Lynn that I needed to speak to and they give me their blessing. So that’s all you can do really, that’s football. It came a lot quicker than I thought it was going to but I didn’t know the option was going to be there.”
