Norwich City boss Neil Adams is prepared to bring in reinforcements if the Canaries’ squad continue to fail.

Adams’ own future remains a hot topic after just one Championship win in the last 10, which culminated in an angry response from home fans following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Reading.

City opted against a loan move in the closing stages of the emergency window last week but Adams is not ruling out a foray into the January market.

“You have to keep looking and there is the option out there to bring players in,” he said. “I feel the players here are good enough but the longer this run goes on then it looks like they are not.

“Everyone can see we are conceding too many goals. They are preventable goals as well. I have said before ideally you need a settled team but particularly in that back four or five with the keeper and we have chopped and changed it for the very reason that we have not looked solid enough - whether that is because of individual mistakes from open play or set pieces.”

Fit-again striker Gary Hooper is one player who has grabbed his chance to impress in recent matches with goals against Brighton and Reading.

“He scores goals. He looks after the ball, he gets into the box and you saw that in his performance,” said Adams. “When he got that early goal you are thinking we could go on here and win the game, but we didn’t and we only have ourselves to blame. You have to earn it in this league.”

Look at us with Berra, one really good defender who can marshall a back line makes all the differnce, yes we are blessed to have several good defenders but the Bear putting his body on the line week in week out just raises them uo even more. Sherwood would be a good fit, or Pearson when he gets das boot, although you will have to watch what you say to him from the stands

  • We have more than enough players at the club already, plus the 8 on loan (Including van Wolswinkle who now has 3 from 8 games in France, most as a sub). Use the players we have better. One think i have noticed this year from watching City live and other clubs on the box, is that they all look so much fitter than us. Quicker at closing down, always 2 or 3 racing to close down opponents, and when they have the ball, 90% break quick and fast with it. We seem to play pat a cake with it for a minute or so, then give it away cheaply.

  • As several in this thread and in others have pointed out, we have no settled back four, an abundance of strikers and a varying midfield formation. This seems to include RB\CB swaps, a striker playing on the wing and a winger encouraged to become a striker. Before crashing through the January window and showering ourselves with yet more splinters, maybe it is worth the risk of sticking with the same 11 (any 11 could hardly do worse than of late) for the next half dozen games. This will be the real test of NA against his objectives - in demonstrating skills as a leader and motivator, not as a stock market trader. If this fails, then the Board is still two months ahead of the game compared with last season's dithering. A reinvigorated NA or a fresh AN Other would still have three months (as opposed to 5 games) to, at worst, consolidate an upper half position as a springboard for next season. My next opportunity at CR will be Boxing Day, when I hope to see (for example) Jerome fed by Redmond emulating the big guy from Reading in a settled team. Plus a couple of on target blinders from the edge of the box? And even a few solid blocks and tackles at the back to give Ruddy a sporting chance? Dream on??

  • Again I refer to Bowkett and McN saying the club might "trade" during the window, the basic idea being you sell underperformers then bring in improvements. That was said however at a time when NA's own performance was not in question. So now they also need to decide who is the right man to do their trading. Another point it raises is how little the parachute money impacts upon our overall competitiveness because even Mick McCarthy will be able to trade during the window. And I bet he knows exactly who he wants in.

He did play up front for us a few times; scored a few as well. 1 to 11 pure ginger gold! Put them on the pitch, blow the whistle and see them run! No particular direction obviously, just randomly flapping about the place. We'd end the match with 4 players and 32 penalties to the other team but my word what a sight it would be! Seriously though, if I really could clone a player and go 1 to 11 with them it would be David Phillips - much overlooked City legend in my eyes. Top top player. OTBC.

At least they would give 100 per cent and show commitment. And that would lift the crowd which in turn helps drive the players on. As things stand we now have a stadium pretty much full of disgruntled fans, most of whom are now convinced this squad won't take us anywhere except downwards. If nothing is done I am convinced our passive surrender and slide will go on unabated and given the past 10 results who can say it won't end in another relegation?

I remember Hughton playing Elmander on the right wing in the second half at Villa, (the team having as ever totally collapsed in the first 45 mins). Now we have Lafferty playing on the wing, a full back playing central midfield.....and so it goes on. And to make things worse the mistakes are compounded every week when the same players are again selected in the same positions! Can someone please tell me what is going on? Its more like the Mad Hatter's Tea Party than an organised and balanced team.

In that case Neil, STOP chopping and changing the back 4. If you think Olsson,Whittaker,Martin & Turner is the best back line then pick them and stand by them. If that annoys me (it will) and other fans, then stuff it. At least you'd be your own man and it would show faith to those you pick. At the moment we keep shipping goals and it simply means a rotation of Whittaker & Hooiveld (with the odd surprise once in a blue moon like Cuellar randomly thrown in like at Forest). We have THREE experienced centre backs, yet he plays them for one game and then drops them. What did Cuellar do so wrong that he was dropped after one game? We are in this mess because there is no consistency as Adams doesn't know what his best starting eleven is and we're almost half way through the season. Yes, he did make Palace tough to beat initially - 6 clean sheets in the 12 games after we beat them in his first match as manager a year ago, and every one of those 6 games won - personally I'd love to boast of 6 clean sheets in 12 when we have managed one in our last 12! Could he have really done anything else when he first went there?! The end of the season was a different story - did you see them at Everton - I did and they played superb attacking football, and they scored 3 v WBA, Cardiff, Everton and Liverpool(anyone remember that from 3 nil down). That sort of boring park the bus football is right up my street, but he only delivered it after sorting out the defence as a priority. From where I stand, that's exactly what we need now........

  • DCL, I totally agree with you in that we need to get and keep a settled back four. I also agree with those who say Bassong can be our best left sided centre back but it appears he and Adams just do not get on. I thought the back four against Brighton looked solid enough, two goals were soft by Ruddy's standard and the penalty was likewise perhaps harsh on us. I would have kept Hooiveld in the team against Reading rather than revert to the muddle defence we went with. Defending however, also starts with the central midfield and for me, you cannot play Howson in a flat 4,4,2 as he cannot tackle or mark tight. His only decent position is in the hole when playing a 4,5,1 or a diamond midfield. The problem with the diamond is we have let the better left and right sided players who suit that formation leave the club in Surman and Bennett (although the latter is still our player). Team selection next Saturday will be interesting, Hooper really needs a target man alongside him so that suggests a 4,4,2, I would try Lafferty as the target man and use Josh on the left wing, I would also start with a midfield pairing of O'Neil and Tetty.

  • 'Fresh blood is an option for Norwich City boss Neil Adams' - I guess NA could always tuck in to the neck of Fergy or the special one and see if their managerial prowess transfers across via their blood. Failing that he could just buy a decent right back or actually use some of the centre backs he got in the summer for more than one game in a row."I have said before ideally you need a settled team... particularly in that back four... and we have chopped and changed it for the reason that we have not looked solid enough." - cause and affect NA my dear boy. You have no confidence in your defence, changing them every game, therefore they have no confidence in themselves, and can build up no cohesion as a defensive unit. Trying picking your best back 4 and sticking with them for a few games - even if they mess up. Can't be any worse than what's happening now.

  • We should have enough players to compete in the Championship, we have those who played in the Premier League last season, we have a crop of good up and coming young players, so make use of them, the Murphy twins, Morris, and even Toffolo is doing well at Swindon.
