Sunderland have reportedly added former Norwich City boss Paul Lambert to their shortlist to be the new manager at The Stadium of Light.

Lambert left Wolves last month over plans for recruitment at Molineux but could be back in football sooner rather than later.

Sunderland owner Ellis Short and chief executive Martin Bain are giving Lambert serious consideration as they look for a replacement for David Moyes, who left the club following their relegation from the Premier League. Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, Burton chief Nigel Clough and Preston’s Simon Grayson are also among the candidates but the fact Lambert is available could work heavily in his favour as there would be no compensation to pay.

Lambert has struggled since a successful four years at Norwich and was linked with a return to Carrow Road before Daniel Farke’s appointment as head coach.
