Daniel Farke admitted Norwich City’s spirited 1-1 Championship draw at Derby County on Wednesday night was a bittersweet feeling.

City extended their unbeaten run to eight games - and moved back into the top six - but were denied a win when Craig Bryson’s 86th minute leveller cancelled out Timm Klose’s header.

“It is always a bit disappointing to concede so late but after calming down you would say it is a fair result,” said Farke. “A really good game of high quality. Both teams with a quite similar style, trying to dominate the ball, and play many combinations.

“It was a close game, some periods Derby were on the front foot. Sometimes we were.

“I got the feeling the second half we had created enough to be in the lead when Timm scored. Teemu Pukki had a chance just before and we had several set pieces. Then it is quite normal in the last 15 minutes a good side will risk more and invest more.

“Either we take another chance on the counter or you defend your goal and maybe we were not fresh enough to be brutal enough not to play without any mistakes. We got the feeling on the touchline we wouldn’t concede.

“The Derby goal was unlucky. Bryson makes a decent midfield run and I got the feeling he was trying to control the ball with his quad and he ended up deflecting the ball into the goal. A bit of a surprise for him.

“Sometimes you have to accept this in football.

Farke’s side host Stoke City this weekend striving to remain unbeaten between the first two international breaks of the season.

“Since the last break five wins and a draw, and we come to one of the big favourites for promotion in Derby and to be there with an away point is always a good result,” said Farke. “I look at my lads who played and again so young in the wide areas so to have this consistency in results you cannot take for granted. Normally you get some naivety, but we were pretty close to a massive win.

“Don’t forget Derby were desperate for a reaction after losing to Bolton. They have so much offensive quality. Then you can bring on (Martyn) Waghorn or (Tom) Lawrence from the bench but we were there on the same level.

“It is a good sign of our commitment and our level of performances and we can take a lot of self confidence from this run.”
