New signing Ivo Pinto is eligible for the match after completing his move to the Carrow Road club from Dinamo Zagreb on Friday, but he will not feature having last played on December 9.

Meanwhile, long-term absentee Matt Jarvis is closing in on a return after being sidelined with a knee problem, but will not be risked against City.

Willy Caballero will retain his place in goal for Manchester City. The Argentinian has been preferred to Joe Hart in domestic knockout competitions this season and will continue after playing in the midweek Capital One Cup semi-final loss at Everton. Defender Eliaquim Mangala (hamstring) is out, leaving Martin Demichelis and Nicolas Otamendi as the only fit centre-backs in the continued absence of captain Vincent Kompany (calf). Striker Wilfried Bony is also still missing with a leg problem.

Match odds: H 4-1 A 4-6 D 14-5

Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)

•Provisional Norwich squad: Rudd, Martin, Bennett, Bassong, Olsson, Redmond, O’Neil, Tettey, Brady, Hoolahan, Jerome, Ruddy, Whittaker, Howson, Mbokani, Dorrans, Mulumbu, Wisdom.

  • He scored 19 goals for Boro last season. Palace have 4 strikers on the books and opt to play none of them most weeks - his opportunities on loan there were always extremely limited.

  • I fully expect VOO will get a starting berth as AN will want to test his intuition that he is now a first-choice starter. I wonder - in my flightier moments - if he may prove to be our Mahrez: bought while in the lower leagues as a low-profile signing who goes on to show star quality. For those questioning the apparently low cost of Pinto's transfer, I believe that Dinamo are in all manner of financial bother meaning that a fire sale of assets makes sense. This signing surely also signals the death of any possibility of getting Leeds' Bryant as that would make us bizarrely top-heavy at RB. Did anyone note that Kone from Lorient's transfer to Sunderland broke down yesterday; leaving us to swoop down an pick up the pieces...? I am sure Kone or another CB will come in next, followed by Naismith at the end of the window and Bamford on loan.
