Norwich City’s highly-rated teenager James Maddison admits joining the Canaries is the perfect next stage in his career, after meeting his new team mates for the first time on a flying visit to Norfolk.

The 19-year-old completed a deadline night move from Coventry City earlier this month for an undisclosed fee, reportedly £2.5m up front with a series of add-ons, but has stayed with the League One Sky Blues on loan until the end of the season. Maddison, however, has now met up with Alex Neil and the Canaries’ squad on a short visit to Colney and Carrow Road.

“I’ve been with Ricky (Martin) today and meeting all the staff and the players and the stadium and I’m really enjoying it so far,” he told the club’s official site. “Norwich City is a massive club and I am really looking forward to the challenge for next season. Right now, I have to focus on Coventry City but I am really looking forward to the summer.

“It was a hectic day. The deal only got done with a few minutes to go (to the deadline) but I am happy to be here now. I think this is the right club for me. They have a young, hungry manager who is going to have a good managerial career in the game and it was the right next step for me.

“I would like to think I am a player who gets supporters out of their seats. My career has been in that number 10, attacking, creative role. That is my preferred position; hopefully I can give the fans something to enjoy.

“It was really tough to leave Coventry City. I came through the academy system and it was my hometown club. I have gone through every stage of my development with Coventry.”

  • El Dingo its not all black, we still have Godfrey of York at the club. He almost sounds like a scion of the old royal family.

  • Join Norwich City and see the world. I do hope this lad actually gets a chance here, not two or three games then oblivion.

  • If this lad is anywhere near as good as everyone is saying, we have a great signing, and he MUST feature in the first team squad from the start next season, no mater which division we are in. The same should apply to Harry Toffolo who is already, probably, as good or better than Olsson.

  • I really wish James well and hope he has a proper career here with NCFC. I fervently hope he will not be loaned out again to his previous club like poor Conor McGrandles - good luck with your recovery - and Louis Thomson (Swindon, twice). Our own youngsters such as Harry Toffolo, Josh and Jacob, Carlton Morris, Jamar Loza, Remi Matthews and so many more have been loaned all over the place, apparently destined never to feature for the first team. So glad I pay my £19 academy donation every season like so many of the rest of us. NCFC you are the Emperor's New Clothes and more and more people are catching on every day.
