Being able to sign Norwich City left-back Harry Toffolo on loan on deadline day was a big relief for Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson.

The Canaries academy product, who was part of the City under-18 squad which won the FA Youth Cup in 2013, has joined the League One side until January and could feature as Rovers host Peterborough tomorrow.

That follows a serious knee injury to summer signing Danny Andrew, with Ferguson revealing Toffolo had also been on his list of transfer targets as he searched for a new left-back.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in League One with Scunthorpe, scoring twice in 22 appearances, and the former England U20 international has had previous loan spells at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough and Scunthorpe.

“Harry has good experience in League One,” Ferguson told Doncaster’s website. “He has played over 50 games in the competition, he was one of the targets alongside Danny Andrew during the summer.

“We worked quickly to get Harry in after we knew how long Danny would be out for, we felt we needed someone in that left side of the defence and he ticks a lot of boxes with his experience in League One and he is used to playing a lot of different formations.”

Norwich activated a one-year option in Toffolo’s contract this summer but the emergence of Jamal Lewis saw him overtaken in the full-back pecking order with head coach Daniel Farke preferring the former Luton youngster for much of pre-season.

Lewis has since suffered a knee injury but with James Husband and Marco Stipermann brought in from Middlesbrough and Bochum respectively, City have decided to let Toffolo out on loan once again to get games.

Fellow Canaries youngster Michee Efete also went out on loan until January, to National League side Torquay United.

However, the 20-year-old misses tomorrow’s home clash with Chester as he will not join up with the Devon club until Monday.

Efete made 36 appearances for City’s U23 squad last season and then completed his season gaining first team experience with Icelandic club Breidablik, making eight appearances, and also had the one-year option in his contract triggered this summer.
