Our latest Norwich City player watch followed the fortunes of striker Dennis Srbeny during the Canaries’ 2-0 home defeat to Cardiff, here’s how his afternoon unfolded...
1 – The German striker heads away an early Cardiff corner at the front post.
5 – Beaten in the air inside his own box by Sean Morrison as Joe Bennett floats in a free-kick from the halfway line but Gary Madine fouls Timm Klose to end Cardiff’s chance.
9 – Flicks on to Moritz Leitner on halfway after good work from Josh Murphy, the winger streaks clear but can’t find Srbeny in the box and wins a corner.
10 – Mario Vrancic shoots low but scuffs his effort, Srbeny picks up near the penalty spot, turns and tests Neil Etheridge with a low shot towards the bottom-right corner but the keeper holds.
17 – Grant Halney plays a long ball forward but Srbeny’s touch lets him down and Bennett attacks on the left.
25 – Groans as poor touch sees Sol Bamba intercept one-two with Murphy but soon after Vrancic sends the big man into the right channel, only for Bamba to tackle back and deny the shot.
29 – Hanley knocks the ball forward, Bamba beats him in the air but referee Tim Robinson gives his latest strange decision, giving the big defender a free-kick, to draw chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ from the home crowd.
33 – Leitner takes a quick corner and Srbeny beats Etheridge but flicks against the post from a tight angle.
44 – Poor touch in midfield but gets away with it then holds up as Lewis clears, before being fouled by Aron Gunnarsson.
45+2 – Alex Tettey feeds Reed on the right, poor pass but Leitner keeps the chance alive and Morrison makes a goal-saving tackle to deny Srbeny’s close-range shot.
53 – Spreads the ball left after receiving James Maddison’s pass, Murphy wins a corner.
55 – Bruno Manga makes vital interception to stop Murphy playing Srbeny clean through.
57 – Goes up with Morrison to compete for a Gunn goal-kick on halfway, wins a free-kick as he is nudged off the ball in midair.
59 – Lovely control of a Klose ball forward before spraying the ball to Reed on the right and Murphy wins a free-kick.
61 – Closes down Morrison after Lewis does well to clear danger, earning cheers from the crowd, and wins a free-kick.
69 – Klose heads down a Maddison corner, Srbeny holds up to keep the ball in play but Murphy is crowded out.
71 – Grant Hanley knocks the ball forward and Srbeny flicks on a header but can’t find Murphy.
74 – Manages an over-head flick to turn a Maddison corner goalwards but Cardiff clear.
80 – Replaced by Nelson Oliveira.
Verdict: Hit the post, forced a decent save and saw two shots denied by good tackles. Plenty of good work for the team’s benefit again but couldn’t quite force the goal he deserved. A decent shift but lacking the killer instinct City so need.
