Here is Paddy's verdict on Daniel Farke's troops after a lacklustre effort against the Brewers.

• Angus Gunn

Alert to tip over Tom Naylor's goalbound header inside the opening five minutes. Will have been delighed with a second festive clean sheet. 7.0

• Ivo Pinto

Never able to offer quite the same counter-attacking thrust as he did at St Andrews. 7.0

• Christoph Zimmermann

Looks to have his mojo back after some difficult shifts at Bolton and Nottingham Forest, in particular. 7.0

• Grant Hanley

City needed his physical presence and aerial prowess given Burton's direct approach. One brave headed intervention in front of the travelling support in the first half underlined his commitment to the cause. 7.5

• James Husband

Booked for simulation by the official when he tumbled inside the Burton penalty box in a great shooting position. Wes Hoolahan's reaction suggested he felt the referee had got it right. Looks off the pace and suspect in the one versus one action. Partly you suspect due to a lack of match sharpness after injury lay-off. 6.0

MOREL Have your say on our Pinkun forum• Harrison Reed

Would have been keen to make the most of his start but forced off after a couple of bangs to the hip area within five first half minutes. 6.0

•Tom Trybull

Looked far more comfortable when Alex Tettey slotted in alongside him. Not really his game on a tight pitch with Burton bypassing the middle of the park. 6.5

• Wes Hoolahan

Saw plenty of the ball in both halves. Unable to pick the lock or carve out a consistent supply line. 6.5

• Mario Vrancic

No lack of effort. Clearly striving to develop his game to get about the pitch and win his personal duels, Yet to convince that is either a natural facet of his play or something he can master. 6.5

• Marley Watkins

Below-par in the first half. Got more involved when he was switched centrally. Perhaps lacking confidence if you gauge his all-round contribution in recent times. 6.0

• Nelson Oliveira

Plenty of endeavour but spent most of his afternoon chasing lost causes or operating in wide areas and with his back to goal in a bid to get involved. 6.5

City substitutes

• Alex Tettey 7.0

Norwich looked less vulnerable when he entered the fray. Daniel Farke planned to give him a match off but Tettey was forced into a 70-minute shift following Harrison Reed's injury.

(for Harrison Reed, 26)

• Alex Pritchard 6.5

Tested Stephen Bywater in a rare sight of goal with a slaloming late run. His head coach felt he should have squared another counter-attacking chance to James Maddison.

(for Wes Hoolahan, 73)

• James Maddison 6.0

Fans demanded his entrance much earlier in the second half. Struggled to get into the flow and embroiled in a stoppage time flashpoint with Tom Flanagan.

(for Mario Vrancic, 73)
