Daniel Farke is warning his resurgent Norwich City squad pressure comes with the plaudits.

City have not lost a game in over five weeks, and travel to Derby County on Wednesday buoyed by a seven-match unbeaten run.

The Canaries dug deep to edge out Wigan at the weekend and Farke is backing his youngsters to handle the rising expectancy.

'We can't protect them too much, they have to learn to handle all that comes with winning games,' said Farke. 'If you want to become at some point a really world class Premier League player you have to learn how to handle these situations.

'We have to keep them grounded, to stay calm and speak about the basics - which are to be on the training pitch and working on their skills. It is also important they grow up in this area. To do that you can be successful.

'We certainly want that as a club and if they get praised then they also get pressure, particularly at home, but they just need to focus on the real stuff that matters and that is playing football in a good way.

'I am realistic. We are a young side and there will be setbacks and maybe some naivety and performances dip.

'Then it is important we focus on the process and the basic stuff we need to be there with good results and performances.

'Maybe when you play with so many younger players it is something they have to learn quickly, because when you are in a good league position then automatically expectations rises and the pressure increases.'

Marco Stiepermann may be at the other end of the age scale, but the German has been a catalyst during City's recent rise.

'He is not surprising me,' said Farke. 'When he first signed in the offensive midfield positions we had James Maddison or Alex Pritchard. We were a bit thinner in the full back or wider positions, so he had to help us a lot.

'There were also some injury problems, when he would be available for two or three weeks and then out with muscle problems. When you want to play in the central role it is important to have that good endurance and be physically strong enough.

'It was quite important he had a big pre-season and could join in every session.

'He now earns the benefit from that because he is coming into his rhythm with a lot of self-confidence. That means he can use his potential. He is crucial for us.'
