Norwich City midfielder Tom Trybull confirmed he has been offered a new longer-term contract to stay with the Canaries – fresh from playing a key role in their 2-1 New Year’s Day win over Millwall at Carrow Road.

A crucial equaliser, another stellar midfield performance and now the offer of a longer term contract – it’s been a productive festive period at Norwich City for Tom Trybull.

The 24-year-old midfield summer signing bagged his first Championship goal for the club during an impressive outing, as Daniel Farke’s squad kicked off 2018 with a 2-1 victory over Millwall at Carrow Road.

In truth, Trybull has impressed for most of the season following a successful trial as a free agent in the summer.

The German signed an initial one-year deal, with the Canaries holding a further year’s option to retain his services if all went well.

But given the degree of Trybull’s impact, an improved deal would appear a logical way of rewarding his efforts – and the former Werder Bremen and St Pauli midfielder has confirmed those talk are bearing fruit.

“I can imagine for sure to stay here,” said Trybull, who reiterated his desire to stay at Norwich for the foreseeable future.

“I have got an offer from the club for a new contract, but we’re still keeping in touch about it because it’s not just up to me.

“Everybody knows that I feel very comfortable here and that I can imagine to stay, but it’s not just my decision. My wife and I decide everything together and she is very happy with how it has worked the last few months and right now.

“But the (sporting) manager (Stuart Webber) is also an important part, as is the head coach as well, and they want me to stay and extend my contract. You have to speak about some things and sometimes it takes some time.”

The discussions may well be eased thanks to Trybull’s excellent performance and diving header on New Year’s Day – a win that needed a big second-half performance from Farke’s side.

“I think the most important thing is that we turned the game around, because we showed a good performance in the first half as well,” said Trybull. “I’m very happy for me as well, but for the team is most important and that we won three important points.

“It was not easy at half-time because we thought we were a bit unlucky. It was their first good shot and they scored. But we reset things and knew we’d get our chances, stayed cool and it was a good reaction.”
