Cameron Jerome will score goals for Norwich City in the Premier League if his team-mates keep his supply of chances flowing, insists manager Alex Neil.
The experienced former Stoke and Birmingham centre-forward scored his third goal of the campaign in last weekend’s rare victory at Manchester United.
Despite regularly displaying his trademark power and pace, the 29-year-old was starting to be criticised by some Canaries fans after missing a golden chance in the recent 1-1 draw with Everton.
Neil is sure of his striker’s abilities though, ahead of today’s tough trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
“Cameron’s done really well for us, worked really hard against Everton,” Neil said. “I don’t know if I’d put his goal (against United) down to mental strength or put it down to just a bit of quality play.
“Players are used to having a bad game now and then, that will happen. You’re used to missing a chance or making a mistake because that’ll happen but, what are you going to do, just give up and roll over?
“Cameron’s made of sterner stuff than that and he showed that at the weekend. He led the line fantastically well for us and he’s been good for us this season.”
Jerome found the back of the net 21 times to help Norwich to promotion via the Championship play-off final at Wembley last season but had scored just once in 29 top-flight games while on loan at Crystal Palace the previous season.
“There have been opportunities,” Neil added. “He’s maybe not scored as many as we would like but as long as he keeps getting opportunities, he’ll get goals.”
