We can’t do this without you’ is Alex Neil’s stirring appeal to Norwich City’s supporters.

Neil accepts the Canaries have short-changed their fans in a wretched run of five Premier League defeats to drop into the relegation zone but the Scot is urging them to turn up the volume at Carrow Road on Saturday against West Ham.

“They are well within their rights to criticise. All I would ask is come Saturday back the players and back the team,” he said. “If they want us to get back to being on the front foot and playing well and being confident that is so much harder if they are getting stick or there is a bit of apprehension.

“The onus is on the players, it is their task to make the fans enjoy what they are seeing but being a fan the players need you the most when you are at your lowest. Get behind them, support them and they will try to do it on the pitch. If we are being honest with ourselves we have not given the fans enough to be happy about of late.

“What we as a group need to do and that is me, the players and the fans, is put the games that have gone to bed and really focus on this one. If we get three points from this one and results go our way we can potentially find ourselves out of the bottom three and then it’s a case of winning more than the ones below you.”

Neil and his under-performing players were heavily criticised for another below-par offering in a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Aston Villa.

“They will be hurting the same way as I am hurting,” he said. “That is when supporting your team and being vocal and trying to put the previous games behind you is tough. What tends to happen is when you are on a poor run the doom and gloom mongers come out and it gets painted worse than it actually is, but it can change quickly with the fans’ help.”

  • Not angry, just very flat. Nearly every time someone scores against us, our defenders are ball watching. Both West Ham's goals were scored by a player in acres of space, where were our defenders...... drawn to, or gazing at, the ball. I said it last week, Panto time, "LOOK BEHIND YOU !!!" Put this little problem right please, that's all I ask.

  • Thanks for the tip, @Adrian Bailey. I suppose predicting the precise score heightens the odds. In Lambo's Prem season I did a bet, on every game, that we'd win 2-! and Holty would score first. Made a profit that season, then along came... Btw, your odds thing would work with a back\slash. Forwardslash does not work for we ordinary folk. Vertical|slash is OK too. More expert advice may be forthcoming in due course. OTBC! Btw; Putney, I hope the beach at Brewhouse Street is warm and dry. Or are you bathing off Putney Pier?

  • The fact is, no team has a right to win any game and in many respects it is a game of chance, for example a penalty given one end as per the Spurs game but a more blatant penalty not given the other end. When I was coaching, we always encourage a keeper to come off the line to narrow angles when faced with a one on one and yet poor Declan got crucified for doing that against Villa, had he forced the player to hit the ball wide he would have been a hero, especially if we had then gone on to salvage at least a point. One thing is certain however, if the crowd make plenty of encouraging noises, then the players will react and try harder, if they do so but still fail, lets be men and accept where we are. It is up to the manager and his coaching staff to improve the output of the team, we can only give them our support on the day.

  • Nope! STILL no reason to expect any different from the last five disastrous losing performances. What has changed? Please show me where the signs of improvement have been during this season? We are saddled with a defence that cannot defend for 90 minutes , an attack that has no penetration , a squad that looks like a loose amalgamation of individuals rather than a team and a dugout full of no more ideas. Please show me my assessment is wrong, provide an entertaining afternoon of football that is worthy of the Premiership and worthy of Support.

  • In some ways our season starts now, we are not 'cut adrift' and the right results today will see us out of the relegation zone and putting pressure on other teams around us. We all knew it would be a hard season and we would always be scrapping for our survival, and guess what we are! So there's no excuses really for the management, players or fans not being up for this, and AN is right, we all need to play our part..........so round pegs in round holes please and a bit of passion and grit from the players and the crowd will be behind you all the way. In my case (and many others) from afar
