Alex Neil has urged Martin Olsson to focus on his football after revealing Premier League Swansea City is interested in the Norwich City full-back.

The Swans had been heavily linked with a January move for the Swedish international and Neil confirmed Olsson is on the Welsh club’s radar.

“There has been interest from Swansea but nothing has happened as of yet. I am fully aware of what is going on in the background but there is nothing concrete at the moment to talk about,” he said. “It is just interest and a bit of speculation. Once we get the (Cardiff) game out of the way then we are coming towards the second half of the window and I am sure things will heat up, not only for Martin, but probably for others as well.

“If someone has an interest in our players we will speak to them or if we want to look at a player we will do that.

“That happens at every club and particularly the bigger clubs in the Championship. There will always be speculation because if there wasn’t what are the agents all doing? Agents drop wee bits in here and there and that will always happen but the guys are professionals.

“They know if they want a move they have to play well or if they want to stay at their parent club they have to perform just as well.”

Neil has told back-up keeper Mark Bunn he is free to find another club with first team opportunities limited behind John Ruddy and Declan Rudd.

“Mark has been a bit frustrated he has not had any game-time. I have spoken to him and made him aware if he can find himself a club then he can go,” said the City boss. “He wants to play football and he is not going to get that here and I am not in the habit of trying to hamper a boy’s career. He is here at the moment, he is training hard and he is a good lad but if he finds himself something then he is free to get first team football. I think Declan is a great back-up. Obviously John is the number one and he is a fantastic goalkeeper and we have Remi (Matthews) below that so we are well-covered.”

  • Apparently just been on 'Sky Sports News' that Swansea have reportedly offered in the region of £3 million for Olsson...I think the club should hold out for much more than that...test there resolve...I reckon they should have to double that (or at least add another £2 mill!!!)

  • BBC gossip is saying that Swansea is offering 4 mill for him, from what little I have heard of his performances I would suggest they take the money and run... If a player does not want to be at NCFC then best let them go and get in someone who really wants to be there. As for the keepers, well, wasn't Mr Ruddy out for a while there with a broken finger and then we just had Mr Rudd and Mr Bunn as back up, and Mr Ruddy does seem to have a little problem getting down to shots going towards the corners, perhaps he is getting a little long in the tooth, I don't know... Maybe AN has some other ideas....

  • Sell him for an over inflated price. Todays poor performance from him today is typical of how he has played all season.

  • waclor, couldn't agree more. And it was buying those type of players that got us relegated to league one and hungry players with a point to prove that got us to the prem and kept us there.

  • In our first season in the prem, we had no so-called premiership players but played like a premiership team. Then along came Hughton who signed some premiership players and we played like a league one team. Only player players who want to be here and cash in on the rest. Players on the way up do well for us whereas sideways moves or those splipping down the leagues (with the exception of Martin Peters years ago) do not give that much.

  • I may be mistaken but didnt Bassong play left back for Watford whilst on loan. If Olsson did go, might give us an alternative option to Garrido.

  • Whilst I agree with the majority of comments on here about Olsson, just slightly worried if he goes would Garrido provide adequate cover? I think Garrido is a good squad player, but at this stage should we be going for second best. If Olsson goes then we have to buy a better replacement, but for the life of me I cannot think of anyone, so hopefully AN will convince him to stick.

  • Archant love to talk up possible transfers! The main title suggests that Swansea are close to signing Olssen. "Martin. Olssen is in Swanseas sights" but when you read the beginning of the second paragraph it reads, "There has been interest from Swansea but nothing as of yet". Supporters don't need this kind of reporting as we are all keen on keeping our best players and it do unsettle players so Archant please watch what you write!

  • Sounds to me like this will happen. I hope this isn't the start of a few of our other 'prem' quality players jumping ship. I say 'prem' because I don't think the players have who have been touted to go to premier league clubs have actually been our best performers this year (e.g Redmond) so could do with hitting form in the second half of the season to get us promoted. Then i'd be happy to sell them on if they don't want to stay.

  • As I said on a previous story, selling Olsson, in my opinion, would be a mistake. He's one of only two premiership class defenders we've got (Ruddy the other). If silly money comes in then you have to consider it, but that aside, I can only question the commitment of the club to getting back into the 'big show' when you are selling what class we have. I would agree he's not having a stella season, but then you have to remember he's in one of the worst defences since the Maginot Line. I see some are suggesting that the invisible man would be an adequate replacement - well good luck on finding him. He was last seen in a Norwich shirt in August, before an experiment at Colney to create the ultimate left back (mixing the essence of Mark Bowen and Adam Drury) went tragically wrong. As a result, he was turned invisible, and in a horrific twist the experiment created a terrifying by product - Steven Whittaker. Don't have defensive nightmares kids. OTBC.

  • I agree Olsson has not played anything like he did last year. Average at best with a few howlers. Having said that, isn't that like the rest of the squad? Can we get a replacement in time or rely on Garrido to hold the fort? Maybe try and keep him and let him go at end of season if still below average...

  • If we can get good money for Olsson, I'd be more than happy with Garrido replacing him. Always gives 100% and can pinpoint a cross. As for playing him with Bassong, I think it's too much of a risk. Bassong's second season for us was terrible, especially after showing what he could do in year one. That smacks of ego and attitude to me, and we don't need it.

  • Olssen signed for Premier League exposure with City despite Blackburn being expected to challenge for promotion. I would not be surprised to see that scenario repeated, if the price is right for the club. He'll be a loss, given his wide defensive and attacking role, but Garrido is also a capable performer, especially if he has a strong left attacking midfielder in front of him (as in the productive relationship he had with Pilkington)... Alex Neil has a number of options there, but nailing down the pairing on the left side is well overdue, whether Olssen stays or goes.

  • Do we not have it covered at this level with Garrido. Prem may be a tad different, but that could be a summer replacement. NMTD try somerset tree shaker from the shepton mallet cider mill, 7% and in a three litre box. Never mind Dingo's three balls this one would have you seeing 6

  • I would be sad to see Olsson go as he was player of the season for me last season but he has not played so well so far this season. Every player has a price but I would set his very high in an attempt to put others off. However, no player is irreplaceable as Southampton have demonstrated this season.

  • I know Garrido has been injured but not a bad, experienced player to fill the gap if needed. I can't remember him letting us down, in fact I believe he and Bassong played loads of games together in the past. Now maybe there's another angle if Bass is coming back in. Martin, Bennett, Bassong & Garrido sound a much better balance to me.

  • I see no logical reason to sell Olsson at this time. If he wants to play in the PL he can earn promotion with NCFC (which is quite likely) or he can wait until the end of the season. I don't see a lot of benefit or advantage to either club or player in moving now. If indeed AN has the last say, then it will be up to him to keep him here, at least until the end of this season. Nothing must get in the way of our promotion bid, and if that means being selfish, then so be it !

"Nothing happened as yet" .......... sounds like a bid is winging its way into DMcN .......... if AN has cover arranged then fine. If Olsson wants away then fine too. As long as the interests of the club come first OTBC
