A youthful Norwich reserve squad is expected to take on Liverpool’s second string in this afternoon’s Premier Reserve League fixture at Kirby (2pm).
The club’s senior personnel have been used for the Carrow Road games, but Ricky Martin’s academy youngsters and young professionals are poised to line up against the Reds after featuring in previous midweek daytime away fixtures at Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal.
A Norwich side that included the likes of Matt Ball and Josh Dawkin alongside Remi Matthews and Michael Clunan recently edged past King’s Lynn Town to book the club’s place in the Norfolk Senior Cup semi-final at Gorleston later this month.
Norwich have won only once in the reserve league this season when they beat Everton 2-1 at Carrow Road in late August.
The Canaries have largely used their return to high level reserve competition this season as a development aid for the club’s emerging talent. Elliott Ward, James Vaughan and Marc Tierney were all given run-outs against Chelsea last month in a bid to step up their fitness ahead of rejoining Paul Lambert’s squad. Ward was an unused substitute for the recent Premier League defeat to Sunderland and is likely to come back into contention for Norwich’s weekend league trip to Swansea with Dani Ayala and Zak Whitbread both injured in the weekend win over Bolton.
Norwich City defender George Francomb has agreed a new deal to stay at Carrow Road.

I, like others, wonder whether we can get Bennett from Peterborough NOW. After all, he`s NCFC`s player! Ward isn`t going to be match fit for Swansea, is he?. Could he not have played a bit of this reserve game? What`s happened to Barnett? What`s really happened to Tierney?? Is it to be Cafu and the Grasshopper at Centre back again? We do worry a lot, we Canary Fans. OTBC.
