Norwich City are said to be watching with interest the position of Ajax’s Vurnon Anita amid reports he is open to a switch to the Premier League.

The Holland international, who can play as a defensive midfielder or at left-back, is reported to be high on Newcastle United’s wanted list but is currently in talks with Ajax – who visit Carrow Road in a pre-season friendly on July 31 – over his future.

Reports suggest Newcastle have already seen a £5million offer rejected by the Dutch club but could snare their man if they up the bid to £8m.

  • So Sky was the original source and this "news" pre-dates PL`s departure, Robin? There is silly money being thrown around now. I`ll be happy if Mad Marc and the King of Spain are our LB alternatives. Whittaker is versatile too, as is Johnson. We need cover @ RB, unless Francomb makes the grade? As long as Tierney stays, we`re OK. Kevin`s right, if we can afford that sort of cash for a full-back, let`s have Grasshopper Naughton! OTBC.

  • No chance. I would be shocked if we paid that for that type of player. No, actually I would be shocked if we paid £8mil for anyone. It's not all about the transfer fee either, but the wages too. This is all smoke and mirrors.

  • At the danger of repeating myself.................... Holt is only good for 70 minutes a game. He isnt fast enough for the lone striker role. Morrison isnt really up for it. He doesnt have the skill or tight control for the Premiership. Vaughan is injury prone and largely untried. Martin only a good championship player, likewise Jackson. WE NEED A 15-20 GOAL A SEASON STRIKER!!!....or we live up to our bottom 3 bookies billing!

  • Says who? I would like to think we can afford £8M on a full back, if that was the case Naughton would still be here surely??!!

  • But I must say if we don't bring in some class players who are better than we have up front to plat along side of Holt and in defence city could be at at the wrong end of the table you can't afford a bad start in the fist six games

  • At £6m minimum plus high personal terms, Naughton appears to have been priced above what Villa have gone in with, so I expect that any City bid (where the opening discussions were in the order of £4m) will also fall short. However, if not sold, he may be available on loan again this season.

  • Who said the "said to be" and who reportedly reported? I wonder if NCFC would really be in the market for an £8million full-back? Is this guy 30 times better than the King of Spain or Mad Marc?

  • City almost certainly no longer interested since the player Lambert admired (Sky) for a then-estimated £3m has seen his price rise with a firm Newcastle bid of £5m to a now-asked-for £8m.

  • You`re right, Dobby1970, a bad start means playing catch-up and that`s hard to do in the Prem. We only got 2 points from the first 4 games last season- we were badly punished for defensive errors and had `sole rights` to conceding penalties! Wigan did manage a great escape after looking to be `goners`. I think our defence will be more settled this time with fewer injuries and that should help Ruddy to command the 6-yard box. I think Holty will be OK, but does need support, as you say. I`d like to think `Cinnamon` and a fit-again Vaughan might step up to the mark..... And "Smiler" Morison did get 9 Prem goals last time out, which isn`t terrible. We have some dynamic young midfielders who could chip in - Pilks got 8 goals last time. OTBC.
