Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer is poised to complete a club-record move to Premier League QPR in a deal that could net the Canaries £10m.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Fer is in London to undergo a medical on Tuesday ahead of finalising a three-year deal.

The EDP understands the proposed transfer will top Robert Snodgrass’ move to Hull City earlier this summer, with QPR set to pay £8m for the Dutch international and the balance linked to the terms of the 24-year-old’s original move 12 months ago from FC Twente. City are also believed to have negotiated a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer of the powerful midfielder.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp confirmed the Fer signing was imminent when he spoke to Skysports on Tuesday morning during an open training session at Loftus Road.

The Dutch international had been included in Norwich’s squad for Tuesday’s Championship home game against Blackburn after making a second half cameo in the 3-0 weekend win over Watford although Fer made a point of saluting all four corners of the stadium at the final whistle prior to his exit from the field.

City boss Neil Adams had made it clear he wanted to keep Fer despite fevered speculation linking his highly-rated Dutchman with a close season departure, but accepted Norwich may be forced to do business at the right price.

“I’ve said all along my position would not change,” he said. “Who in their right mind would open the door to let Leroy Fer go out? We have to accept that business is business and if, and when, the right offer came along we would have to consider that.

“He’s a top quality player. I think he was delighted as well with the response from the crowd (against Watford) singing about (the World Cup in) Brazil during the game, and rightly so. He performed particularly well for himself out there.”

Fer had been heavily touted with QPR since Saturday evening with Redknapp identifying him as a top transfer target.

The 24-year-old was also linked to Spanish outfit Sevilla earlier this summer and even on Tuesday he was on the front page of Portuguese sports paper ‘A Bola’ with European heavyweights Benifca reportedly tracking the midfielder.

Fer joined Norwich 12 months ago from FC Twente and scored three goals in 29 Premier League appearances to earn a place in Holland’s World Cup squad where he scored in the 2-0 group win over Chile before a hamstring injury curtailed his later involvement for the Dutch who went on to finish third.

  • PDH hi I expect your apologie I agree Ipswich and Norwich fans should get on better there are younger fans that want to cause trouble even on here. But all Norwich fans who write on here, you might not agree on their views their are some who don't agree we me when managers get things so wrong and they are the ones who pick players on match days .But I also think that supports know more than they do at time we see things in a different ways to them and we know that they have got it wrong when they pick teams you should always pick your best and stronger teams not play them out of their best playing position unles of cauce you have no choice becauces of injurys.

  • Dobby 1970 I did not mean to offend. Like you I am concerned by the large number of negative and often offensive comments that appear on here. My comment was meant to be a light hearted response to that. In fact I think Ipswich and Norwich supporters need to get on a lot better than they do because they need each other. The highest attendances, the highest income and the most support will always come from derby games. My apologies if I upset you.

  • From the commentary by Chris Goreham, it seemed we were not to bothered in the second half. Allowed Blackburn to lose their way for 30mins, and then piled on the pressure. Redmond was rightly substituted, I think his head is getting swelled a bit! Young Murphy took the opposite attitude and unselfishly passed to Grabban for the third goal. Can you imagine Snodgrass or Redmond doing that? Can see another three coming on Saturday and Adams must be preparing to worship the ground that Hoolahan walks on! Well done to all the boys. Show no fear for anyone!

Blowed if we should give the other team a gift like that so early on. Took the sleepy blighters 10mins to wake up. But, they did and got their act together. Sounds as if Garrido is after making a claim for a regular place. I'm pleased about that cos I prefer him to Olssen ...Wes Hoolahan is getting good marks from Chris Goreham. I don't think Fer would bring much to the party, so sell him on and put the money in the bank for a rainy day . How I read it from Chris G .is that Redmond is either playing on the wrong wing or has a touch of Snodgrass about him. Reckon he will get told a thing or two during the half time break. Anyway we are on level terms and can easily score another couple in the second half.

Who (employed) isn't a "puppet" to his or her boss, the manpeople who cut your checks? Types of managers who have the gravitas to have real control over money matterstransfers and can say "no" to their bosses weren't coming to City after we fired Houghton. Maybe one--Pulis, who refused to be a "puppet" and now Palace has no one at the helm. And if that were the case here we'd be in defcon 5 meltdown mode. Also vis-a-vis transfers, whats Adams supposed to say? "Yes, we're in full firesale mode, everything must go! unfortunately"? Is that the type of "transparency" some of you want? Is that reassuring to you?

After all what has he achieved with us? If I remember correctly he started off full of vigor, then got a bit injured, then came back and looked really unfit and a bit lazy, got injured again, went to the world cup and scored a header as a substitute, had a long time off over the summer. We all see his potential but he hasn't fulfilled it so if he wants to go, let him. What I do want to see is the money from at least Snodgrass and Fer (regardless of what we get in parachute payments lets not forget!) reimbursed back into the squad. I fear that this probably won’t happen though.

Really Neil, are you saying you didn't realise yesterday that he would be in London today having a medical at QPR, when you have a game tonight - Your first team squad member just up and off ? So no good having a go at Adams and calling him a fool, it's just the way modern football works. I would however be amazed if we sold Leroy for less than £10m. Now that's cleared up those Adams haters will probably go find another reason to put him down, even though none of them could come close to doing his job and never offer a creditable option.

SkySpurt is reporting that 'Arry turned down a bid for him from Valle d'Aosta Groundsmens All-stars ( a set of 12 Alpini regiment hats ; - jolly useful on wet matchdays ; two buckets of linemarker , and a photo of Benito Mussolini scowling at King Victor Emmanuel ) . The NCFC Directors , unlike us , DO put their own money up , in Oodles , for their hobby , and you really cant blame them if ( Oh so rarely in Football ) they succumb to the human temptation to spend some blissful time bathing in a pool abrim with warm and soothing cash , and enjoying the feeling . The reality is probably that all this is just numbers on paper , not balances in the bank , birds still firmly ensconced in thickets of bushes from which , hopefully , they will emerge over time . I'd rather have a club that is solvent , than one in hock up to it's nose , and seeking some unsavoury foreign crook with money-to-launder as it's " saviour " . And if that means an NCFC stuck back in its traditional comfort zone ( mid-table in the old second division with a couple of cup runs and two victories over the neighbours each season , plus an occasional foray into the Prem every decade ) then Fine by me . Frankly , the Prem is a bore . YES the £££££££££££ is nice , but there aren't enough games ( cos the big boys are all busy in Europe ) and you go into every match knowing you are the underdogs . We ARE a smaller local club , albeit a pretty good one , be happy with that . Look what my Brothers ( Luton and Chester ) have instead .

(Early last season may i add, about the same time he quit Twitter). As those fans converns have now been proven justified, can we open up dialogue again and resume our relationship as fans and club rather than schoolchild who has spat their dummy out. • We have a choice of signing decent upcoming Championship or League 1 players with ambition or "Premiership" players with no ambition (who wants to step down a division at the start of the season?). If we get promoted we can look to sign "Premiership" players but people are deluded if they think Norwich or any other mid to lower table club can hope to sign anyone proven at the highest level. I am more than happy to sell Fer for that money. These days, I think the only reason to resist selling a player is pride. Pride doesn't get you points and a high wage bill gets you nowhere guaranteed. I would be disappointed to sell Ruddy and Redmond but Fer I can stomach as we are more than well-stocked in midfield.

Also I doubt very much if City end up with £10m netto (to quote Ruud Gullit or was it Rutger Hauer). For an insight into transfer dealings Simon Jordan's book on his days as Palace chairman is a good read. Agents fees, loyalty bonuses (paid by both the selling and the buying club), departure fees will take a big chunk of the money. Maybe they can sack some of the tea ladies and bar staff.

Certainly we would expect the Board to invest some of the money and spend it wisely on the right kind of players to strengthen the squad at this level, especially where we are vulnerable (at the back). However I also agree with those who counsel the Board not to overspend and take the club back into serious debt. The lessons of clubs like Leeds and Portsmouth must be heeded. As is the recent history of NCFC, where only cash injections by Delia and her husband helped sustain us when we were also well in debt. I also think that eventually clubs will all be forced (either by financial realities or UEFA regulations) to run their clubs in a more business-like manner and not spending money they don't have on the thin premise of future glories.

Add to that, they are based in West London and they are a big attraction to anyone, especially to the wife of a newly married young man. Leroy is a great player and I wish him well. i dont always think he was as fit as he could have been but his talent was immence and he will be a dutch international for years to come. Fo all mc Nally stated we didn't improve the squad last year, we are doing not to badly in that we are getting our money back or in some cases a good bit more for these payers purchased by Hughton so the the profit margin has been good thus far on these sales

Having played in the World Cup he was bound to want Premiership football and if any of us were in the same boat we would likewise want away. Lets all hope some money is now spent on a decent left sided centre back. Meanwhile I look forward to tonight's game, OTBC.

Let us see if the board have the ambition or not. Last time they spent a bundle of cash, it got us relegated, so they will be a lot more careful in future one feels. Has Fer gone yet ?

No one has suggested that we should spend £43m or break the wage structure. However, the club could invest £10-15m on 3 or 4 players who could bring in fresh talent and or experience. If they did, I'd be happy - but they won't. Similarly, if we could find 3 or 4 players with the same qualities on "frees" I'd be happy - but we won't. It's not about money so much as about having a squad with enough quality and depth to sustain a promotion push. I'm sure you disagree

Fer is the new Dickson Etuhu, occasionally brilliant but at times ponderous, one-paced and probably not good enough for the Premier League. If ever one goal has bumped up a player's value, this is it. It's my bet he will go the same way as many of QPR's over-priced buys.

Now do think really our good board will spend that £43m on getting us promoted ? Or, will they tuck that safely away and strike out for mid-table Championship mediocrity with a Yes Man manger who does what he is told ? Lets see which way this plays out.

It's looking likely that we will make over £20m in sales this summer. We have a £23m parachute payment as well..that's a healthy reserve for a club with no debt. How much have we invested in the squad so far..is it £3m?

If City are pushing for a promotion place by Christmas (big ? here if they actually will) then Fer will probably be only to happy to stay. If we have bombed our chances by then - because of poor performances (like at Wolves- then sell him to some PL strugglers (like QPR) in the January transfer window for around £15M. Simple strategy, makes sense and is a win-win for all concerned. I am wasted in Dubai, now's your chance to sign me as the new CEO !

Many on here say "we have to remember NCFC is a Championship side" relative to hanging onto players; it is becasue of the the board and owners that we are a championship side. They do not have a clue relative to running a successful football club. Everyone is giving McNally credit for getting NCFC back in the black - how could he fail to get us back in the black with EPL money coming in for 3 seasons when we were one of the lowest spenders in the league. If we are every going to amount to anything, we need "football-wise" dynamic and rich new owners.

Yes, he could have have toned-down his words but the "fans" who post on this board would criticise him for not being emphatic in his desire to keep Fer. Even £7m is a good price for him. Maybe he could be priced higher but simple fact is NCFC bought Fer when in the PL and we were relegated. Why should he stay? I wouldn't blame him or any player seeking a move if offered. The real criticsim falls to the Board for not jettisoning Chris Hughton prior to the 2013-2014 season. Goodbye and goodluck to Fer and OTBC

My argument has been that we need to keep Leroy if we are really intending to go straight back up, if for nothing else the intimidation factor, However, look at Southampton, they had the fire-sale to beat all over the summer and came back with a new look and a solid threat straight away. Ok, QPR are 'bigger' than Norwich at the moment, as they have a PL place and may hold on to it, whilst we may not regain ours, so to a player with no affinity with Norwich, QPR would seem a higher level right now. But, as a Dutch international, should he not be aiming higher? A Newcastle, Everton type of club, even a Southampton? And that's just domestically. Presumably they'd be some bigger sides than QPR in Italy, Spain, Germany who may be interested?

The only reason we got £7m for snods was cos Hull were desperate for reinforcements so you can't compare. My only concern is where this money is going...we have money to spend and made money from sales, yet we have recently only signed old boys, cheapies or freebies. We need a squad with experience and youth of course, but we look we could be hoarding our money after the wolf debacle. That's the concerning part, altho it does give them a reason to blood the youth and that's what the board will use as an excuse for holding on to the dollar.

  • Malaga, market forces do dictate prices when a player is for sale but if the club don't wish to sell it becomes a sellers market. It's like someone knocking on your door and saying that they love the cladding and the artex ceilings and offering you £200k to get out quick. You would probably say "make it worth my while to find a new home for my gnomes and fake wishing well".

  • I must admit if this rumour turns out to be true and we do sell Leroy at £7 million I'll be completely dismayed. For a club who as Neil Adams keeps telling us "Do not have to sell" to let go in my eyes our best player who might I add is tied down to a long contract go for at least £2-3 million below the current market value is completely baffling. If this does turn out to be true the board need to give Neil the funds from both this and the Snodgrass deal to prove to the fans and I'm sure even Neil himself that they actually have the desire to get promoted this season.

  • The surprise will be if he is in the squad tonight. I agree with Malaga that if it is £7m as mentioned here, then given some of the other fees being paid by PL clubs at the moment, I would say that QPR have themselves a bargain. Still, I believe that Hughton paid £4m for him, so at least it makes up for potential losses on his other Dutch signing.

  • I suppose, Mad Brewer, it is a matter of what a club will pay for his service? It's like saying my house is worth £200k. But the reality is, it is up to the market to decide. I do, however, agree with you that he could surely have waited a tad and then probably done a lot better than QPR. With respect to them, they are a small club with gates on a par with the likes of Burnley and Blackpool. Even given their financial backing I think they may well come straight back down. Which would then take Fer back to square one!

  • Good luck, Leroy. After all he never was going to stay, was he? Just hope that he and perhaps Surman will be the last departures and on the money received we will strengthen the squad in key areas. It would be good to have the squad settled and finalised but of course with this silly end of September transfer window yoiu never know. Tonight will be a stern test but if we can get the points it will start to give us a base from which to build.

  • Robert out for £7m+ is good business. Not so sure about Pilks` price tag (whatever that really was). But is £7m really the "right price" for Fer? Poor business all round if the rumour is true. Fer could do better than that, surely? If he can`t, then he`d be better off with us. Unless the Board wants rid anyway, which is not beyond the realms of possibility - even for a "non-selling club" like Norwich... BUT; it IS still only a rumour, until the fat cash register ker-chings. Fee "undisclosed" or "inaccurate"...
