Norwich City still look poised to hang onto wantaway midfielder Wes Hoolahan as the transfer window draws to a close.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Carrow Road chiefs look set to spurn the Irish ace’s dreams of linking up with his former boss Paul Lambert at Aston Villa – even though Hoolahan is clearly unhappy in Norfolk.

The playmaker has had a transfer request turned down by the Canaries and is said to have had an off-air exchange with a television reporter yesterday which shows his growing frustrations at the move not coming off.

Chris Hughton – who yesterday added Joseph Yobo to his ranks on loan – will not be, as rumoured, signing Lewis Holtby. The Tottenham midfielder is training with Fulham on Transfer Deadline Day ahead of a proposed loan move.

And winger Wilfried Zaha, linked with City briefly, will not arrive because he is set to line-up against the Yellows tomorrow after completing a move from Manchester United to Cardiff City until the end of the season.

Centre-back Scott Dann looks likely to move to Cardiff or Crystal Palace while Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas was also said to be on the Canaries’ radar – but they look unlikely to sign him too.

  • This latest outburst in public about how City is being run is the 4th by a senior player since Lambert left. We have just heard from Bassong that amazingly the team was not up for the first half against Newcastle, and that he did not know what was going on, followed closely by Hoolahan's outburst. In addition we saw the problem with Holt when he left. The most telling thing however is the fact that Lambert knows the situation and is unsettling the squad by tempting unhappy players to ask to leave, which must affect the whole squad. Clearly the problem is not the quality of the squad as so many teams want to buy our players. Frankly, I dont think it matters who we get to join the club right now, they are joining a squad in turmoil and lacking in confidence. That showed with the reaction of Snodgrass last Tuesday and Bassongs recent comments. The question for me is; what are the Members of the Board doing? Are they completely devoid of any leadership or understanding of management? Dont they understand that the ship is unsteady and it needs a change to get things on course again, and that is not buying a couple more players. In the mean time the players need our total support, as they seem to get very little from the club, as described by Hoolahan's outburst.

  • Aren`t we guaranteed minimum TV revenue, jigs69, with extra if they use us more than a certain number of games? Get your point, though - the TV guys aren`t likely to look for any extras unless they`re feeling sadistic and fancy seeing what ManC or Liverpool do to us again. Oz, I get your point, but those `in the know` have claimed that Hughton spends more time at training than any previous manager. Maybe that`s the problem - too much? I hope that `violence` comment was but hyperbole, Slovenia!

  • Brightoncanary, of course everyone's entitled to their opinion but I think you'll find that Hughton's supporters (of which there are many) arn't throwing abuse at anyone. However, just because as you infer there are a lot of voices who don't think Hughton is up to the job, that doesn't mean they are right and in my opinion, they are not. The board have all got where they are in life by being succesfull and that's meant being headstrong and following what they believe in. And they obviously believe in Hughton who is still delivering what was asked of him.

  • 'Johny', Norwich supporters, there are many, but Hughton supporters, I seriously don't think so. Kindly tell me what you like about him, is it his style of play, is it his team selection, is it that our players have been coached so well that their individual and collective sk ills have improved over the course of the season, is it our ability to score, is it our ability to defend. Do tell, I'm really am all ears and would genuinely accept any reasoned argument.

  • Ok Lobbo. For one thing we have a rare thing in the Premier league, a manager who stays calm, doesn't over react to victorys or defeats and has his feet on the ground. By carrying himself the way he does, he gains the respect and backing of the players and that brings unity in the squad. He keeps things 'in house' which is better than criticising players in public. His CV goes back to a long career playing at the highest level backed up by very succesfull spells as assistant manager, then manager at Newcastle, getting them promoted etc. So he has plenty of credentials that no-one can argue with. It seems that fans want the team to play flowing attacking football like Man City or Liverpool. We don't have the money so let's have a reality check.

It`s just the Entertainment Business, sans the Entertainment. Sniff the fragrant hops. Get some local wine down your neck. Chill! Imagine; we survive and start afresh next season. Just like good Styrian Golding rootstocks. With a fresh management team. I do not quite understand what other posters mean by `deep seated` problems with Hughton. Could they elucidate? Then, your hyperbpole invites what I suspect are cheap shots. Slovenia - Chill out!

  • How did the club get this so wrong? We now have a disaffected Hoolahan on our hands for the last 15 games, well make that 14 because CH has already said he won't play against Cardiff. or make that 10 because the last 4 games are a complete write-off. Is all this fuss and upset worth 10 games, most of which Wes will hardly figure in? We could have sorted this out a fortnight ago and used the time and money far more profitably to arrange a loan deal for someone like Lewis Holtby, Steven Taylor, Micah Richanrds or Jack Rodwell ... All of whom are complaining about lack of game time. just think the club have been incredibly short-sighted and dug their heels in over the wrong player.

He is taking us nowhere, his tactics ensure that we are missing out on TV revenues and his style of play goes against everything NCFC stands for. For pity's sake, put us out of our misery.

  • First post on here, I am astounded by the vitriolic abuse being aimed at supporters who all want the best for the club. I would like to see those Hughton supporters actually say something positive about the Hughton regime, why do they think he is going to keep Norwich up when all around them are of a different opinion. It seems to me that all Hughtons supporters can do is throw a use at other supporters, it's enough to make me think of giving up 50 years of supporting Norwich and supporting Brighton instead. What a shame Norwich didn't appoint Poyet instead of Hughton. Dire performances in Cup and league! dire football! he has to go

  • Slovenia...far be it for me to spend your money for you but I would have thought that if you cared about the club you would want to attend some games at least to witness for yourself the atmosphere and views of fellow supporters. I think that fans at the moment have a dilemma in that they can let their disapproval of CH et al override their support for the team or visa versa. CH and the team are quite simply not the same thing. I estimate that there are about 16,000 inside Carrow Road every game who refuse to let CH diminish their support for their team. Whether this is worth £100 is your choice and I respect that as we all have similar choices to make.

I think the issues we are having started due to the number of new signings, which needed to gel, and that has now turned into low confidence. In any case, we are 12th at the moment, and long may that last or improve. Not sure why you hate Hughton so much. But unlike you I will not criticise other fans who want to waste their money there.
