Tottenham Hotspur defender Sebastien Bassong has joined Norwich City.
The Cameroon international first played in the Premier League with Newcastle United where he was was named the club’s player of the season for the 2008–09 season.
Following Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship, Bassong moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £8m in August 2009 on a five-year deal.
Bassong was a regular in the Spurs side that finished fourth in the 2009-10 season and scored the club’s first ever Champions League goal the following season.
The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers but could not prevent them from being relegated from the Premier League.
Norwich City officials confirmed on Monday night the release of ten players from the club – headlined by the departure of Canadian international Simeon Jackson.

Great signing for us. I disagree with most posts though, with Grant, Morison, Vaighan, Jackson and maybe Martin, we have some pretty decent strikers (As our goals for column proved last year). All strikers need good quality service, this stems from a good defense that can play the ball out, to the midfield and then the midfield can provide the service. if the defense is overwhelmed and leaking, this leads to hopeful hoofs up front, and the ball just keeps coming back. If we hold the ball as we know we can, the service and the goals will come. One signing and i have faith once again

Yes, I think bassong is a good signing, but I do agree with several others, that we do need a really decent striker to help Holt out, otherwise we will struggle to score goals, & this then puts the pressure on the defence.

Could not be happier with this signing!! Just what NCFC fans have been screaming for, even under the rose tinted reign of our previous leader. Amazing how the whingers have found fault. Same 'fans' that were all over PL's back last year when form dipped. I'd love a striker too, but have to be realistic. I think Vaughan has to go for the money to be available. Or maybe he could just stay and start knocking them in! Today is a good day. OTBC!!

Is "whinger" a synonym for "somebody who dares to disagree with me"? We cannot write off the possibility of Jordan heading down the Rhode with Pitbull as a part-exchange, I suppose? But it`s all conjecture. I like Vaughan, he could do the biz. CB pairing? Bassong by Big Benno.

With all the talk of Vaughan possibly going elsewhere to ply his trade, nobody has mentioned it but Jordan Rhodes was not injured nor in the Huddersfield squad for their first game! Who knows!

Ta for that info, norwichred. So Brendan doesn`t want Dani either, perhaps it`s time to go home to Spain? I liked the cut of his jib; quick, clever & skilful. Ticks all the wrong boxes? I really would like to see what Vaughan can do. Please, Hoots! :-(

I just don't see a striker being signed...CH pretty much said as much recently (although, I guess another couple of toothless performances between now and 1 Sept may change that). I would really love to see Vaughan get a go against QPR. Not sure why CH doesn't appear to rate him - there have been various rumours about him going off elsewhere...persistent rumours such as this are often based in some sort of reality? Surely if Vaughan does go, we would need another striker...perhaps CH has one in mind but wants to get rid of Vaughan first or as part of the deal? Who knows...but either way, I think there is probably enough left in the kitty for one or two more between now and 1 Sept...interesting times!

I've bleated on about my concerns with our defence and the fact that I feel it's not as strong as last seasons. I've also moaned that I haven't been wowed by our signings so far, other than pleased to see Snodgrass. Now I've got a smile on my face - this is more like it. Forget about his relegations - Wolves doesn't really count, remember they had a management meltdown and he was only there for a short while. Besides, between the two relegation sides he had a great season (plus) with Spurs. This guy ticks the right boxes, I can see him putting confidence back into the side. I'm not worried about our attacking quality as long as we adopt the right tactics - if we get a new attacker fine, as long as they're very special, personally I'd still like to see another impressive defensive signing like this one. I think it's a good signing, but seems strange we have loaned out Ayala only to buy another centre half. Hopefully Bassong is better than Ayala and doesn't turn out to be another 'Barney'.

Anyone seen the Daily Mail article on this? Talk about negative reporting...leads with the headine "Will that plug the leak? Norwich sign twice relegated Bassong from Spurs". Incredible - I bet if Swansea made this signing it would read "Swans sign ball-playing defender with Champions League experience"...! Anyway, now that's off my chest...interesting that we reportedly beat QPR and West Ham to him...

For those asking about Pacheco, it would be brilliant to have him back at Norwich. As a supporter of both liverpool and Norwich though (Liverpool fan since age of ten, and now Norwich City season ticket holder for four years) I can say that inexplicably Pacheco is not in Rodger's plans. He was dropped for pre season friendlies and is currently in Spain trying to find a club.

Good that Hughton knows Mr Bassong, from his days in the notth-east - that has to be a positive. On a non-related matter, anyone else noticed the number of players we have on our books, who have, within the last 45 years picked up their respective club's, Best Player of the Season Award. Sure that means little now, but it does provide an echo???

Great signing...strong, fast and experienced defender. We do need another striker as I fear Holt's passed his sell buy date...looked slow and unfit at Fulham. We don't need another goalie, that's for sure.

This is a real quality signing!! Yes he was part of 2 teams that got relegated but he has also been one of Spurs' best defenders. Relegation, as with all aspects of football, is a team effort (or lack of!) and so to single one player out is not fair. Lots of PL experience and I think he will do well.

More impressed with this signing than the one of Turner. My only concern is that we are asking him and possibly Garrido to go straight into the team and gel straight away with the rest of the defence which could be a recipe for disaster. This is what pre season is for not the first month of the season. On the plus side its not Mark Bunn

I'm with Putney and a few others. A good signing and just what we need after recent shambles, to show intent to both players and fans. As many will know from my recent posts, I'd love to see more attacking options. No doubt in my mind that Hughton builds from the back whereas Lambert saw attack as the best form of defence - it will be a different season. We need a massive response against QPR.

Naughton has just signed a new deal with Spurs so won't be returning.....however for me the missing link is another target man. I think its a logical progression for CH to recruit players with prem experience....we just need them to be hungry for it as the team were last year

Hoping I'm wrong, but i much preferred the Lambert method of giving lower league players a break, and seeing them flourish. I suspect Snod n ChipButtyField (see what I did there?) were set up by the old manager....its liek Hughton has come in and thought 'hmm...what we're lacking is experience'...and at tmies last season we did need that. Slightly concerned but hoping Chris H can get the best out of Garrido, Turner and Bassong.......OTBC!

Get real folks - live in the real world. Norwich City FC, does not belong in a Mills & Boon novel. This talk of 'mercenaries' and team spirit. Try to see matters more surgically, more business-like. Above all, stop kidding yourself. Players, managers, the board - ALL - come and go, only loyal supporters remain with longevity.

I cannot believe this reported signing is being met with what appears to me to be, at best, indifference. This is an amazing signing for Norwich. That 09'10 season for Spurs, he wasn't meant to be one of their main two but injuries meant he played most of the season - he was awesome for them. He's the right age to be near his peak, he's big, he's quick. This guy is easily a cut above any of our current back 4. If this is true, this is the best signing we've made since a certain Mr Holt was captured for c.£400k 3 years ago. After the horrible showing on Saturday, I have finally got a little bit of optimism back due to this. As an aside, I hereby state my intention to never see Norwich's first game of the season again. The last time I saw their first game of the season was 3 years ago (7-1 reverse at home), gave up for a couple of seasons and then went to see Fulham on Saturday...maybe it was somehow my fault...fear not though, I will stay away from here on in. Hopefully the response to Fulham result will be the same as the response to the Colchester one. Might even end this season as champions!

Don't forget Super Chrissy Martin, Prince of Waveney! Reckon we're set up front. Defence-wise, however, I fear these Turners and Bassongs and Garridos are here as mercenaries - naive, in the premier league, to expect any different... hopefully there's enough residue of the old team spirit that got us here to rub off on the new boys 'cause they gotta gel sooner rather than later...

kenton, I doubt if there`s enough left in the kitty for Pacheco even if he were available. Maybe a loan deal? He may be Brendan Rodgers` sort of player, though. Carroll certainly seems not to be! soulwaxer has touched on my innermost worries, specially ref players out of Scotland`s Two-horse race system....now a one-horse race.

I think that Bassong was relegated with Newcastle and Wolves... Turner had one good season (or half a season really) with Hull and since then hasn't really impressed. Whittaker has only ever played in Scotland, which is nowhere near the same standard. I'm not normally one to criticise but I don't think that these are the sort of players that we need - definitely not the sort who would stick around if we went down, so not likely to bust a gut to keep us up.
