Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer has made the front page of one sports newspaper in Spain today, linking the Dutchman with a transfer to Spanish top flight side Sevilla.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Speculation about Fer leaving Carrow Road has increased in recent days, with national newspapers in England insisting Premier League new boys QPR are keen to sign the 24-year-old.

Sevilla finished fifth in the Primera Liga last season and won the Europa League, beating Benfica on penalties.

That means Europa League football for the Spanish side this season, as automatic Champions League qualification for the winners of the Europa League does not start until the end of this season.

The main photo on the front page of Estadio Deportivo features Fer celebrating the goal he scored for Holland at this summer’s World Cup – the only game he played in before picking up a hamstring strain.

The headline, translated into English, reads: “Faced with the difficulty of closing other deals (like Charles Aránguiz who found it impossible to leave Brazil) Sevilla has its eyes on the Dutch midfielder from relegated Norwich.”

Aránguiz is a 25-year-old midfielder who started and finished all four of Chile’s matches at the World Cup this summer, who were knocked out in a penalty shootout defeat to Brazil in the last-16.

Sevilla tried to sign the Chilean this summer but he decided to stay with Brazilian side SC Internacional.

Fer joined Norwich from FC Twente last summer for a fee in excess of £4.5m and made 29 Premier League appearances last season, scoring three goals.

Fer is yet to join up with the Canaries again following his summer exploits and injury problems. Recent links to QPR suggested a fee in the region of £6m could persuade City to let Fer leave.

  • A pessimist might say let's take the money and pack the parachute for the drop to Div 1, but if Adams actually delivers Fer is the type of player we will need back in the Premiership. Hughton devalued him by more than an Argentian Currency crisis, in today's money with a good season behind him he could be worth £20+ million

  • tonyb, factor in the Hughton Effect, and it will be seen that EVERY player, except Olsson and Robert, went backward in their development. Olsson stayed put, Robert crabbed sideways into blind alleys. Fer is worth a LOT more than Snodgrass. Only IMHO ;-)

  • need at least £8 million for him.will he actually be a great loss this season if he goes? Not sure he will be suited to championship football with the pace, physicallity and games coming thick and fast etc.many occaisions last season he was caught dilly dallying about losing the ball and also could not be a###d to track back sometimes,so £8million might not be a bad sum to put back into the team, especially come January if we need reinforcements!

  • That`s a fair old hike, Igno! Is the White Lion still run by that young couple, inc. the lady with the colourful hair? CW, not that it`s any of your affair, I was warning our relatively new contributor, Igno, of the dangers. You would whistle a different tune had you been subjected to sustained abuse and several cases of "identity theft". I`ll tell you what education brings another day. Not that you are likely to find it of any interest.

  • Thank you Mr. Brewer, as soon as I read your reply I recognised the name of Milton. If you are correct about the Adnams heritage I would never have guessed from the beers, some of which were most palatable before the evil brat made me WALK from the White Lion to Carrow Road!

  • Would be sorry, but not surprised, to see Fer go. By today's inflated standards, though, he must fetch a minimum of £10m, money which could yield a much needed central defender.

  • Igno; I believe The White Lion, Norwich, is the\a tied House of Milton Brewery, nr. Cambridge. I think it was originally set up by employees of Adnam`s. Not absolutely sure. I lived in Milton with my 2nd wife for a while, not far from the Science Park and that wonderful Tesco footbridge over the A14. White Lion has a `name` for `Real` cider, I believe. Btw, this Season`s Pollyanna Potion is based on parsnip wine from the Hagar Nish Plateau, Eritrea. If you don`t believe me, ask Dubya. ;-)

  • Dutch international. Scored at World Cup for semi finalists. Three years left on deal. Ross McCormack has gone for £11 million to a championship club. If they want him, they need to pay at least that. Then we can buy a midfielder whose actually bothered.

  • Perhaps she was referring to that rather pleasant market town further up the county. On the other hand, maybe not. The Pollyanna potion sounds like a way forward! Off topic, there is a pub at the end of number three son's street in Norwich called The White Lion which serves some excellent ale from a brewery in Cambridge I believe, the name of which I can't recall.........can you help?

  • Igno:- Dubya`s in charge of unreasoned optimism. He`s very good at it, and also quite tolerant of being lampooned. Good guy. If you speak to him nicely, he`ll send you some of his Pollyanna Potion. Great stuff. On the flipside, there is the `Septic Orifice`. You may not disagree with her. She once said "Holt is going nowhere". And Chrissy was the best thing since sliced Christmas pudding. Etc. The rest is hiStOry. Cue attack of identity theft\random abuse.

IF he stays and can produce even half of what's shown there, several of the less than complimentary posts I've read will need serious revision. Let's hope he gets the chance to shine.

  • Of course in the 1st half of the season when he was consistently picking up man of the match week after week Normal also thought he wasnt "that impressive". How easily people forget. Great player, stuck in a poorly managed side last season. If he stays, from a selfish POV ill be thrilled and he will destroy in the Championship. If he goes it'll be announced as 'undisclosed' but hopefully for a large amount and all parties will be happy. He isnt a typical money grabbing modern footballer. Very grounded, always makes time for fans and isnt the sort to force a move or put his parts on. Wait and see folks.

He has not said he wants to go anywhere and these newspaper gossips are the reason a lot of players do get fidgety. If a club wants him they should come up with the cash up front, starting at 10 to 12 million

  • As I've said before, if a top player has 3 years left on his contract with the club, and Snodgrass went for £6-7 million (with only 1 year left)...we shouldn't let him go for less than £15 -18 million...let's see if any clubs got the guts?? lol
