Norwich City’s John Ruddy and Leroy Fer are the latest Canaries to be touted with summer transfer exits with a host of Premier League clubs reportedly ready to test City’s resolve to hang onto their key players.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Ruddy is again linked with Arsenal, with the Sunday Mirror claiming Arsene Wenger may turn his attentions to the England keeper in a potential £7m move if Cardiff City do not lower their £15m asking price for first choice target David Marshall. Costa Rica and Levante’s Keylor Navas is also on the Frenchman’s watch list as he looks to provide competition for Wojciech Szczesny after Lukasz Fabianski departed for Swansea earlier this summer.

Ruddy was previously linked to the Gunners but the 27-year-old signed a new four-year deal in 2013 after interest from Chelsea and reiterated following his England World Cup snub he was prepared to stay at Carrow Road and play his part in the club’s Championship fightback.

Meanwhile, the Sunday People claim Fer is a £6m target for QPR with West Ham and Southampton also monitoring the situation. The Dutch international was part of the Holland squad who finished third in the World Cup in Brazil although a hamstring injury limited the midfielder to a goalscoring cameo against Chile in the group stages.

Fer is also contracted to Carrow Road until 2017 after moving from FC Twente 12 months ago. The latest speculation comes after Gary Hooper and Nathan Redmond were mooted with moves away but City boss Neil Adams made it clear after the club’s opening 1-0 pre-season friendly win at Dereham they have had no bids that would meet their valuations.

“Nothing to report at present,” he said. “There are a lot of feelers out there and we are looking to strengthen all positions. What we also have to be prepared for is if there are any outgoings. It is not just about bringing players in. We are aware there are clubs sniffing around players and we have to be ready. I want to add to the squad. There has been no bids or enquiries we have where we would want to let players out. It has to be the right money and we have to make sure if it happens we are not caught napping.”

  • In football contracts count for little if a player wants away.Pricing him out of the market,if it works,is counterproductive in terms of his commitment if he stays and the damage he could do to the morale of other players. No Manager needs "a rotten apple in the barrel" The only thing to do is to get rid at the best price obtainable. If the report is correct, this was achieved with Snodgrass.Mind you,if I was David marshall and my Boss said I was worth 15 million quid he would have a job refusing to give me a pay rise.

  • Both seem reasonably happy to stay, and the rewards of promotion will outweigh any short term monetary gain, so from a business sense, and in light of the 'no financial need to sell' comments, would need crazy offers to sell these two this summer. I think both will be key to going back up. It's possible we might get a crazy offer for Ruddy, but I wouldn't sell for less than the Marshall valuation. I think Fer has flown under the radar to some extent, so doubt we would get a crazy offer. Certainly don't want to see us selling for 6mil which is what we paid. Keeping the team as intact as possible should help our promotion push

  • There'll be plenty more deluded Ipswich fans spitting vile nonsence before the season starts. They are clearly worried about us being back. No offence to Dereham but this was a nothing fitness test. A chance for many of the players to shake off a few cobwebs and get a run out on a warm day. Especially after some had been sat on their PlayStation for most of the year. The Murphy boys look like they will be the ones to watch this season. Ruddy will hopefully stay and is worth more than Marshall, so I dont see us accepting any bids for him as they wont match our valuations. Fer is a potential leaver, LVG may want him as a squad player and I can't see him turning that opportunity down. There was a rumour somewhere of RVW going back to Sporting on loan, but dont see that happening.

  • Snodgrass had a year left, and was likely to go free nextsumsummerif we didn't go up. We got decent money for what he is, some might even say overpriced. This pair though, years left on contracts and far better players. We need to be getting very good money for them if they do go. Make the clubs offer big, not try and get a bargain. It's not just about now, but intent for the future. Let too many go too cheap and unless we're storming the leage we might loose more come January, and even the youngsters and new signings might not be safe come next summer Iif wwe don't go up.

  • Also hope it's true Michigan. Sadly I don't think it means the end of interest in Ruddy unless the club make it clear he is not for sale. Daft thing is the player is not making any waves so it should be easy to end the speculation. Another point re goalkeepers, have I missed something or are we still short of a goalkeeping coach? I am still available on a part time basis. "Command your area, save all shots, see you Saturday."

  • I hate reading articles like this. Of course they're in demand! We'll find out by the end of the close season whether we've got real resolve to keep our best players or whether NA is just a puppet for the board to sell when the price is right. We supposedly can afford to keep them all. The more we undo the squad of last season the less likely an immediate return. They may not have been good enough to stay in the premiership but they will be very good players in the championship. And if we're going to sell just because they say they'd like to leave then we are just showing what a small club we are. Of course they're going to want to play in premiership for more money. Tell them they've got to stay & undo their mess!!! Rant over

When Danny Mills was transferred to Charlton many years ago for peanuts he was relatively speedily transferred to Leeds for a big sum and I was unmercifully ragged by a Charlton director I knew at the time. I felt I supported a clueless club! They could not even credit him with ability yet he went on I believe to claim 19 England caps. PLEASE, PLEASE no going back to cheap transfers!!

I would feel a lot more confident regarding Mr Adam's "we don't need to sell" statement if he were to mention valuations that screamed out "Norwich don't need to sell!". Dissuade the chancers and bargain hunters at the outset and at the same time reassure the supporters that he genuinely means what he says.

Probably felt threatened by the presence of a much better coach. And nicer person. I do worry a bit that Adams has never moved far away from the Carra Comfort Zone. Maybe that`s what concerns bluelight? Then again, I suppose Dave Stringer didn`t stray far, either. Likewise Gunn...

Neil Adams spent a short time as radio presenter after being dumped from Canary coaching staff after he disagreed with a certain Mr Roeder (CH clone), he was doing a good job on the coaching staff then after getting his badges and after playing in some good Canary teams. He knows how to play football and that has been surely mised over the last 2 seasons.

You just end up with disgruntled players who do want to play for us, which is the last thing we need. Best to create a bidding war to maximise the price. McN knows how to 'play the game'.

  • 46 games offers the possibility of 138 points in the season. An average of 2 points a game will be 92 points, so I don't think targeting 100 points is at all unrealistic for Norwich City. 100 goals in a season will come from an average of around 2.2 goals a game. If you want to make comparisons, last time we were in the Chump I think we took 6 out of 6 points against 1p5wich and scored 9 goals. Continue this form and we will be well on the way to 100 + 100 next season. Looking forwards to us being the BIG team in the league again, as long as it's just the one season..........bring it on !

They will rightfully conclude that we are back to the bad old days of being a soft touch for transfers.Snodgrass - yes, he wanted away and only had a year on his contract I believe. Why don't City do as Cardiff, who not wanting to lose Marshall their outstanding goalkeeper, put I'm led to understand a £14 m price on his head as a deterrent. I fervently hope ineptitude will not lead us to the Amen department!

And as for Leroy Fer, well he has hinted that he wants to stay and help City back to the PL. In one way it is good that we are getting interest in our players; does show that we do have quality. On the other hand, I can't see the club selling just for the sake of it. Guess we will just have to wait and see. OTBC

Let us hope that the big names being touted around stay, as it is difficult to see them being replaced with like for like at this stage. You may be touting for business. You may be touted as the next Editor of the EDP. Not sure about "touted with". Not sure whether that`s a correct use of "mooted" either. It should mean "the raising a of topic for discussion", for instance. Perhaps it`s a moot point? In North America, that means something irrelevant, Archie.
