Norwich City are rumoured to be finalising a move for former Rangers and Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty.

The 26-year-old helped Palermo to the Serie B title in Italy last season, scoring 11 goals, but the Sicily-based club are rumoured to be willing to sell Lafferty as they attempt to strengthen for a return to Serie A next season.

Lafferty is set for a medical at Carrow Road, according to www.football-italia.net.

The tall striker has been capped 39 times by Northern Ireland, scoring nine goals, and featured as a substitute in recent friendlies against Chile and Uruguay ahead of the World Cup.

He came through the youth system at Burnley and scored 10 goals in 88 appearances, 33 as a substitute, but his potential earned him a £3million move to the Scottish Premier League with Rangers.

Lafferty played 127 times for the Scottish giants, scoring 38 goals, but was one of a host of players – alongside Canaries defender Steven Whittaker – to leave Ibrox after the club went into financial meltdown.

The striker then moved to Switzerland and scored five goals in 25 games for FC Sion, before making the switch to Italy.

The report makes no mention of how much City would pay for Lafferty and would appear to be at odds with a Daily Record report in late March after the striker had been praised by Russia’s former England manager Fabio Capello.

Lafferty told the Scottish newspaper: “I thank him for his kind words but I have no wish to play in Russia. My plans have always been to return to Scotland towards the end of my career.

“I will see out the remaining two years of my contract at Palermo. My aim is to win promotion here.”

While Lafferty is the latest in a steady stream of players being linked with City this summer, Canaries supporters have been given hope that Robert Snodgrass will not be leaving this summer.

The winger won the club’s player of the season award last campaign and continued to be linked with Hull City in Sunday newspapers at the weekend.

The 26-year-old Scot, who is out of contract next summer, has appeared in a teaser video promoting the release of City’s new kit tomorrow – featuring as a window cleaner. Click here to watch the video.

  • Don't know much about Latherty but if hes that good why are they letting him go ? i am not a fan of scotish players all i do now is that Snodgrass will not be the last player to jump ship because they think they are to good for the championship and they should be premiership the same players that got Norwich relegated .

  • Well from what I read last night an article was claiming that the owner of Palermo just wants rid of him. Hes meant to have two families on the go with around 6 kids, constantly missed training but because he was doing the business on the field they kept selecting him. However following promotion the manager simply wanted rid of him as he cant handle him anymore. Sounds scary....however, if you were the owner of a football club and wanted to sell something that belongs to you, why would you bad mouth it. You wouldn't try sell your car but go "its a right bag of nails!".

  • Careful, Matt. You could be inviting a `Yellow Card` there. Seriously, look up KL on Wiki. He must`ve upset some Rangers fans with his choice of Bride, but she is truly stunning. Almost 6 feet tall (without 6 inch heels). Her maiden name was Munagh (ish) , so plenty of opportunity for Kylie Minogue japes. ;-)

  • Mrs Lafferty would get on fine with Delia and, at 5` 11" in her socks, would tower over Mark Bunn. Former Miss Scotland. Babelicious. Surprising choice of Bride for a Rangers player, but she looks a delight.

  • I sometimes wonder just how old you are, Mattias! Then, as a Time Lord, you`ve been around the Universe a few times. Crouch was at NCFC, what,10 years ago now? Kylie Rafferty is interesting. A right good Northern Irish footballer from Enniskillen who played for Rangers but married his sweetheart in a R C establishment in Scotland. That will have delighted the Ibrox fans. This lady is almost as lofty as Peter Crouch; 5` 11" in her socks, and a former Miss Scotland to boot. Maiden name Munagh (I think-ish). So we do have an ecumenical Kylie Munagh. Where would this Posh `n` Bex fit on St. Delia`s Icon0stasis?

  • I remember standing outside the Jarrold stand years ago MB and Roger Munby walked up to myself and a group of random fans waiting for players to arrive so we could get autographs. It was during the Hucks\Crouch loan spell and he asked myself and the fans present who we as fans would prefer to sign permanently as the club could only really afford to try for one or the other. Obviously im not saying that discussion lead to Hucks signing, as he was just generally interacting with the common folk (me) and making good public relations. Either way, I was the only fan who said he wanted Crouch. Obviously in the long run im glad we signed the legend that was Huckerby but I was very pro Crouch at the time. Enjoyed what he brought to the team. Hard to deal with, can hold the ball up and bring others into play from deeper in midfield, and surprisingly good technically with the ball at his feet. I doubt we will ever see him back at NCFC as hes likely still demanding quite high wages but I wouldnt be against it. I highly doubt he would come up to me in Norwich City centre and ask where TK Max is again as well ;)

  • Highland Canary - not a good word for Lafferty from my mates up here, comments were mainly "pish' and given a 5 out of 10 for ability on a good day. Why have we not gone for someone like Crouchy, already played for the club, still playing well and would add that bit of experience we need up front

  • Word of warning regarding youtube videos. Last season 15,000 people watched a video of RVW and decided based on that alone to get his name on their new £50 NCFC shirt. Its easy to make anyone look 100 million in a youtube video.Im behind Lafferty if he really does arrive. Fits the slot we've been missing. I certainly wont be expect 20+ goals. Ill be expecting him to bring others into play. Fear fans wont give him that though and moan the minute he fails to score 10+

  • Lincs Canary - I just realised... Doh! All my Scottish pals are dead against KL, apparently dire. But if he managed to help Palermo get promoted how bad is he? I've seen some YouTube vids of him being a massive cheat. Surely Ads wouldn't make a massive clanger by taking on a massive (6'4) liability...? I think my Scots mates are pretty biased given he played for Rangers though... I just wish things were a little clearer on who's staying - damned World Cup!

  • Is this guy really any better than Becchio? I'd rather strengthen our creative midfield positions and defence to try to allow the decent strikers we have to be as productive as possible. If we all agree that RVW is probably off, has there been many better strike forces in the Championship than Hooper, Becchio and Grabban?! Loza as a fourth adds pace and power and will come on massively next season. Neil knows his plans I'm sure, but hopefully Archant can make up some rumours about the defence soon too!

  • Watched Leroy score the decisive first Dutch goal on Belgian TV. He was described as the "Norwich attacquer". Great header though and I guess will increase his asking price. Another one I can't see being here in August. Has another Norwich player ever scored in a world cup (whilst a Canary)?

  • Let's put this in perspective....Norwich are going to be linked with every half decent striker that comes on the market, or is being touted by the players agents. Neil Adams obviously has a plan, and I suspect that is going to be governed to a large extent by what happens with Hooper. Having said that a 6 foot 4 target man will benefit all 4 of our current strikers, even RVW. The intriguing thing for me is whether or not he will persevere with RVW? Send him out on loan, or what. On current showing his market value must be virtually nil. I cant see David McNally just writing off £8.5M as one of Hughtons mistakes. Interesting days ahead, and lots of speculative newspaper reports, until some some real news stories start to tickle in.

  • Lets all hope this signing comes off as it is the one piece in the jigsaw we sorely missed last season, a decent target man. I am totally with Matt in that we must not worry too much about how many he can score but how many he can set up for others. We already have an abundance of No 10 players so competition could be fierce.

  • Yes wiki has changed again now and says we are in negotiations. Anyway, I agree it would be good to sign someone up front that offers something different as all our strikers seem to be quite similar, leaving us a bit predictable. Hopefully once the forwards are sorted we can add some strength in depth to the other positions.

  • Yeah I completely agree with you Matthias - rafferty is coming in a tall stick up man for Grabban and co. Unlikely he'll be plying the net with too many but thats not his role. Plus we're in the Champ now so they need a big solid chap like KF. Not the flouncey PL no more.

  • I believe Adams and co have a masterplan and with a bit of patience we will see it come together nicely. Obviously some fans have been conditioned by the last few Prem seasons and expect big name exciting signings so anything else is underwhelming, but I think the overall team balance will be much better under NA.

  • Despite the sea of negativity im reading regarding Lafferty on social media i'd be fairly happy with Lafferty. At 6ft4 he appears to fit the bill in terms of what we've lacked in the last 2 years. Fans have to be realistic though! If he arrives, hes not coming in to score 20+ goals a season so dont start moaning the minute he fails to score in 3 games running. His role is to hold it up and bring others into play, ultimately helping the side score goals. He did well in Serie B last season which makes me wonder why hes leaving them. Can only assume they are bringing in players for the coming Serie A season or he wants to return to the UK after a stint abroad. I think that would seal the exit of RVW (loan move most likely) but im not convinced it means Hooper is off. Cant afford to start the season with only Grabban & lafferty as options + kids. If he signs officially lets get behind the lad guys. With our history though, we've never been that patient with the lower scoring, target men types.
