QPR boss Harry Redknapp has made it clear he wants to bring Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer to Loftus Road ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Rs’ have been touted with a move for the Dutch international for a number of weeks, with recent reports claiming Rangers midfielder Karl Henry could be used as part of a player-plus-cash bid to lure him away from Carrow Road.

City boss Neil Adams reiterated after Monday’s 5-1 friendly win over OGC Nice he wants to keep the 24-year-old but admitted City would find it difficult to turn down a big money offer for any of their top players, following on from Robert Snodgrass’ club-record sale to Hull City earlier this summer.

Redknapp is stepping up his bid to equip the Londoners for their top flight return after the acquisitions of defenders Steven Caulker and Rio Ferdinand.

“He’s a player we like but I don’t know where that one is at the moment,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News. “It’s been ongoing for a while but there are other people as well that we are looking at. I think we need a couple of midfield players and we have got other targets we are looking at. We need to strengthen in a few positions really to be strong enough to really have a go at it this year.”

Fer is currently on honeymoon after his wedding in Norwich last weekend but is scheduled to link up with his team mates on August 4 ahead of the Championship kick-off at Wolves on August 10.

  • Eureka! `Arry`s a `C0ckernay`... Bells of St. Clements... Bow Bells. I think `Arry`s middle name may be `Beau`. I believe Jamie & Louise gave that name to `Arry`s grandson, in honour of Ol` Barra Boy...

  • I have at home a book of Winston Churchill`s speeches, selected by his grandson, WS Churchill; a little book called `The Wicked Wit of Winston Churchill` and a `Bumper Book of Insults`, which features quite a few gems of Churchill`s. I must admit I had yet to stumble upon the `Nationalise it` story, though I do not doubt the veracity of borderman`s comment. (Perhaps the publishers found it "offensive"...). It has historical credibility in view of Atlee`s post-war Nationalisation policy. I first came across the Wilson\Heath version on a little, floppy 33rpm vinyl record sold by Private Eye in the 1960s: "Abominable Radio Gnome". It featured their updated\plagiarised version by, I think, John Bird and William Rushton (?). I still have the record; it cost 3 shillings. That version is a better fit to the topic in hand - or is Clement Redknapp QPR manager now?? Hi Igno. I must see if that little record will still play on my gramophone. It looks a bit crumpled & scuffed! 50 years old. This topic has really raised my spirits. Not at all `sad` now. Thanks, borderman, thanks Igno ;-) There are so many Churchillisms. I love this one "Everyone will have equal rights in Heaven. That will be the real Welfare State..."

  • Well Mr. Brewer, it would appear that in his monosyllabic and slightly repetitive way Borderman is not overly fond of either of us. But, as Mr. Zimmerman once wrote,"the pain of your sadness will sink as your senses will rise". Or, as Mr. Cohen suggested, "first we take Manhattan, then we take Ipswich (or was it Berlin?). Sorry, I think I may be getting tired and emotional again.

  • Why does a Club which continually says it wants to hold on to its players in the next breath say all the players have a price. Also bragged about not needing to sell players. A whole load of bullshti keeps coming out of Carrow Road.

  • The `Arry situation reminds me of that old `Private Eye` joke, featuring Ted Heath and Harold Wilson in the House of Commons gents` toilet. The punch-line, from Mr. Heath, was "P!$* off, Harold. Every time you see something big, you want to Nationalize it".

  • I fear Fer's head may have been turned by his moment of glory at the World Cup, so he or his agent are likely to see his future elsewhere, other than in the Championship. Yes he is a good player but we have a number of others in central midfield so as long as the money is right then I see no problem in either selling him or letting him out on loan just in case we get an instant return next season. Like all fans I live in hope but as long as we win most of our home games then many of us will stay happy. OTBC

  • I would be very surprised if either fer or Redmond went to QPR. For a start I don't think the club would be either able or prepared to bid enough and secondly, as others have said, they would most likely just be joining a team whose sole criteria would be to stave off relegation. Southampton on the other hand have the funds to make tempting offers. However not sure what the atmosphere in the dressing room would be like given the heart has been ripped out the squad. In the end I would not like to lose either but money talks as they say!

  • If moneybags Southampton come calling, they need to remember the Snodgrass transfer was the precedent for a premium payment on the price which must mean both of Fer and Redmond should command a double digit figure,as they have the potential to be much better,Snodgrass doesn't.And no buy one get one free either.

  • Well said LYB. I think the board have that as a target but the vibes im getting, its more of a "promotion if we can, but if we fail we are not in a mess" vibe. Getting up at first attempt is our best shot. Fail and players who were loyal (Ruddy etc...) will say enough is enough and they gave us a chance (Aka Robert Green after previous failed first attempts getting back up). If that happens I truly believe we will be stuck down in the Championship for many many years to come without some kind of major backer coming in and quickly changing things.

  • I'm not taking promotion for granted, but promotion has to be the target. If that's achieved then we will want Premier League calibre players and Fer is that. He was a coup in the first place and with three years left I think it would be foolhardy to sell. Loan him for the year if you must, but hang on to him.

  • I've had a mare .... I of course meant Tettey and Olsson @blackdog ... bizarrely I made the exact same point on the Sky Sports article. It will be like groundhog day for Leroy if he signs for QPR and spends another season fighting relegation. If he stays at Norwich he will be playing winning football at the top of the Championship and that promotes confidence and better form and he is more likely to express himself in the same manner he did under Van Gaal in Brazil.

Arry boy, the original Del boy knows how to work the press to unsettle a player but it will not work here as Fer will not want to be fighting relegation again by going to Loftus Road.

  • Gutted if Fer goes - he will be a monster in the Championship alongside Tettey - more importantly if we play Ipswich with the squad as it stands today we could easily surpass the most recent 4-1 and 5-1 demolitions. Really hope NA can retain a strong core of Hooper, Redmond, Fer, Fettey, Bassong, Losson and Ruddy around which he can start sprinkling in youth such as the Murphys, Lewis Grabban etc and we can then pose a realistic challenge for promotion
