Robert Snodgrass’ club-record transfer move to Hull City did not hinge on a final pay-off from the Canaries.

The Scot’s protracted switch to the KC Stadium was completed earlier this week for an undisclosed fee, with the delay prompting speculation in certain quarters the proposed move had been in doubt over a contractual issue in the 26-year-old’s existing Carrow Road deal.

Snodgrass himself revealed City had rejected two ofers earlier this summer and Canaries’ boss Neil Adams admitted the midfielder did not agitate for a move away.

“Some players it has to be said will look to chase moves elsewhere,” said Adams. “He wasn’t like that and you saw in his performances what he was all about and the type of character he was. We didn’t have to sell anyone but the finances were strongly in our favour. Robert was an excellent player and certainly one we didn’t want to lose. He would have been ideal for us, but football is football and it is a good deal for the club.

“In terms of Robert he was great for me in those games at the end of the season and I wish him all the very best.”

Snodgrass was relieved to finally seal a move after travelling to Humberside towards the end of last week once Hull had met City’s valuation.

“It took a few days to get over the line but after some lengthy chats with Steve Bruce and the owners I was desperate to come,” he said. “It was very difficult to leave Norwich because I felt a connection with the club and the place. It is a lovely place to live, my children were settled at school there, so it was difficult but I am a realist. I understand when you are in this business you want to play at the highest possible level. I don’t just want to sit there in the Championship.”

The wide player believes the Tigers will get the best years of his career after agreeing a three-year deal.

“I’m in my prime,” he said. “I’ve had a couple of years in League One, a couple of years in the Championship and a couple of years in the Premier League. I know where I’m at and what I can do. Steve Bruce knows that as well and that’s why he’s signed me.

“I believe I can kick on again in the right team. This club’s got the personnel and the team spirit to keep moving forward. Hull City are on the up and I wanted to be part of that.”

  • I must admit Stew that in true Mary Whitehouse fashion, I have not read your posts in the Hull press and therefore probably should not have commented. However I think that unless your comments are encouraging and complimentary, they are best left unsaid. At best it will seem vindictive and give the impression that Norwich fans are spoilt brats.

  • I hope Snoddy does well for Hull. I really mean that. Im gutted his second season tarnished his time here for me. First season he was top draw. If he's priced right ill likely have him as my cheaper midfielder in my fantasy team that beat 40 + other NCFC fans.

  • Let me see if I've understood this right. Snodgrass was "an excellent player and certainly one we didn't want to lose. He would have been ideal for us...........we didn't have to sell him" etc etc. So what did you do? You sold him ! You're a good man, Neil, and you have the makings of a good manager, but disingenuity does you no credit. Most contributors on this site are too long in the tooth to be taken in by bullsh*t. They prefer honesty. The club got relegated, this left a big hole in the budget, the £7 million+ for Snodgrass has gone some way to filling the hole without leaving you with no competent wingers. End of story.

  • Good luck to Snodgrass. Hull and it's region are an awful place to live. The supporters are not pleasant, they will not tolerate any player who plays for himself and not the team. I fear trouble ahead for him, but- good luck.

  • I for one am sorry to see him go. He may have been a bit arrogant but isn't that what you want from a player. We certainly don't want the attitude of "they're all superstars and we're Little Norwich" that Hughton seemed to instill in the squad. My concern is where is the creativity going to come from? Sadly I really don't think Wes (if he stays) is up to it any more, I'd love to be proven wrong but I think if we rely on our No 14 too much we'll be in the bottom half of the table, at best.

  • Suppose it is all yesterday's news. It always amuses me the reasons that a footballer will give for having changed clubs. The only one never given is money. By the time Snoddy's loyalty bonus and agency payments are taken out, City will probably end up with half the quoted fee.

  • So just what, who or where are these "certain quarters" Paddy? Just those on the periphery, surely? Inconsequential if so. Neither Robert or Adams makes any mention of hinges in your `article`. So neither needed to deny what had not been suggested anyway - though you "insiders" will, of course, know more.... Good headline, though. Pity about the writing.
