For all the talk of Swansea’s passing game, the midfielder believes City can do it their way in Wales – especially on the back of a valuable three points over Bolton at Carrow Road last weekend.

“It was massive for a lot of reasons; we knew it was in terms of our survival, but it was also about getting back to winning ways after Sunderland,” said Surman.

“We always strive to not lose two in a row as well, which thankfully we did. You are going to expect Swansea to have a lot of possession they seem to work quite hard on that.

“But I think you just have to play your own game. Obviously you have to stop them playing but if we impose our game on them, then I think we should win the game.

“We have already beaten them this season – it was at home but we are going to take that into this one and try to get a similar result.

“It’s still going to be a tough game; it’s not going to be easy just because we beat them last time and if anything, I suppose they have probably got a score to settle with us. But I’m looking forward to it.

“They make the pitch really big and keep the ball really well, so you have got to adapt to the way they play and stop them, but we can’t worry too much about it otherwise we won’t impose our game on them.

“It has been a good strength of ours that we have built up play well and put the ball in the right areas, and you know when you have got players like Grant Holt, Steve Morison and Simeon Jackson on the end of things, they are going to score goals. We have got to keep that supply line up to the front going and if we do we know we’ll score goals.”

Surman has been given a consistent run in the side in recent months – but the former Wolves and Southampton midfielder is far from taking anything for granted given the size and competition around him in at Colney.

“When you are not in the team – and I’m sure everyone else that is not playing at the moment will tell you – it’s murder, and you’ve got to make sure you take your chance when you get it,” said Surman.

“Obviously I knew when I got a chance I wanted to take it with both hands and thankfully I have kept my place in the team.

“The players that are waiting to come in, they are fully capable of doing a job and when they do come in they bring that quality in as well.

“So you are always looking over your shoulder, which is always good and pushes you to perform every week.”

Saturday afternoon will bring together Brendan Rodgers and Paul Lambert – two strong contenders for manager of the season on current evidence after managing seemingly seamless transitions from the Championship to Premier League.

“There are obviously a lot of great managers in this league, but our gaffer throughout the two and a half years he has been here has achieved so much,” added Surman.

“And to sit ninth in the Premier League at the minute is a fantastic achievement, as it is for Swansea sitting in 10th

“They are massive achievements and I am sure they will get all the plaudits for it as long as we are sitting pretty at the end of the season still in the Premier League.”

  • Indeed. Ged is getting wreckless now. This is the panic reaction of somebody who has totally lost the plot, if he ever had it in the first place. I find it impossible to comprehend why he feels the need to produce such patent tosh. Was he abused while at nursery school last week? Have Archant stopped his sweetie allowance?

  • die Grosskontrolleren are probably wise to do that. But it`s when they veto valid comments that do not suit their own agenda that it becomes sinister. It`s specially noticeable with articles involving local "businessmen". I`m looking forward to how PL lines the squad up v Swansea. I`d love to see Swiss`s stampeding horse scenario. A point would be good. 3 would be great. Zero not a disaster as long as the performance is good (and no new injuries!). Anyway, in the eyes of the pundits, we are the underdogs. Must be good! This is the best team spirit since the 1959 Cup Run.

  • As I'm making comments, I suppose you've all noticed that in the two stories about misbehaving players - Leroy and Kyle - there is no opportunity to comment. That's because of what I mentioned in another thread when talking about ethering - die GrossKontrolleren will not allow comments on any story to do with the judicial system. Censorship lives on in Norfolk!

  • Doh! Duff Stuff. Why not can it, you tinca? Of course a draw would be an OK result. But why this "bottling" stuff? Genuine NCFC Supporters are delighted with the way the Squad has performed this season. Why so negative? 1 point away from the Season`s total last time we were in the Prem. With 14 games to go! If we go down from this position then we deserve to anyway! OTBC.
