Player ratings for both Norwich City and Southampton following their Premier League clash.

• Norwich City:

8 Mark Bunn: Best stop denied Gaston Ramirez in the first period. Kicking duties rock-solid as well in difficult conditions.

6 Russell Martin: Used all his nous to try and contain the interchangable duo of Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana.

7 Michael Turner: A robust tussle with Rickie Lambert was inevitable. Inches from first half breakthrough. Reliable.

7 Sebastien Bassong: Adapted his game to the weather perfectly. Not a day for over-elaborate skills. Exuded calm authority.

6 Javier Garrido: Superb first half free kick cleared by Rickie Lambert. Adam Lallana failed to punish his miscued clearance.

6 Robert Snodgrass: One dipping free-kick almost deceived Artur Boruc. Denied by Maya Yoshida’s defensive instincts late on.

6 Jonny Howson: Guilty of losing possession far too frequently but along with Bradley Johnson was out-numbered in central midfield.

6 Bradley Johnson: Over-run with Jonny Howson in those central areas. Took a booking for the team after Wes Hoolahan was robbed.

5 Anthony Pilkington: Fresh hamstring injury problem in the first half curtailed his involvement.

5 Kei Kamara: Difficult shift and only sporadic service for the majority. Best work came in wider areas.

5 Grant Holt: Penalty miss aside, well policed by Jose Fonte and Jos Hooiveld. Strong penalty claim in the first period.

Subs: Wes Hoolahan (for Pilkington) 6, Luciano Becchio (for Kamara) 4

• Southampton:

8 Artur Boruc: Unconventional stop from Robert Snodgrass’ free-kick. Guessed right on the penalty and produced a fine parry.

7 Maya Yoshida: Brilliantly timed interceptions to deny Grant Holt and Robert Snodgrass certain second half goals.

6 Jose Fonte: Powerful physical presence. Dealt competently with City’s balls into the two frontmen. Ranged forward at times.

6 Jos Hooiveld: Slightly more cultured than his partner. Impressive range of passing long and short.

6 Luke Shaw: May feel aggrieved over penalty concession, but fortunate to escape a clear first half pull back.

7 Morgan Schneiderlin: Makes Saints tick in the middle of the park. Disciplined, energetic, and a sharp foil for the flair players.

6 Jack Cork: Had a succession of loan spells early in his career but now looks a very steady Premier League operator.

7 Adam Lallana: Bad miss second half, but a class act. Ran the show in the first period. Denied twice by Mark Bunn.

6 Gaston Ramirez: Big price-tag and pedigree to match but still only exerting a peripheral influence. Foiled by Bunn in a one-on-one.

7 Jay Rodriguez: Probed on both flanks throughout. Fantastic work ethic. Tested Bunn in the second period.

6 Rickie Lambert: Good link man outside the box. No real threat inside and best contribution was a flying defensive header.
