Norwich City officials confirmed on Monday night the release of ten players from the club – headlined by the departure of Canadian international Simeon Jackson.

Jackson, midfielder Korey Smith and defenders Marc Tierney and Elliott Ward will leave Carrow Road when their current deals expire on July 1. Earlier this month it was confirmed former academy graduate Chris Martin had sealed a permanent close season move to Championship club Derby. City youngsters Tom Adeyemi and George Francomb will also not be offered new deals for the 2013/14 season.

Back-up Lee Camp, who made three senior appearances for Chris Hughton’s side following his New Year switch to provide goalkeeping cover in the absence of first choice John Ruddy, will not be offered an extension to his original short-term deal. The club also confirmed in a statement released on their official site that development squad players Ramil Sheriff and Olumide Durojaiye have also been released – Durojaiye having already agreed a move to Gary Holt’s Falkirk.

The statement read: “Norwich City football club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to all of the lads for their service and commitment to the Canaries and wish them all the very best for the future.”

Hughton added: “I’d like to personally thank every single one of these lads, their attitude this season has been first class. They are all top individuals and we wish them all the very best.”

  • CanaryWest, very sorry to see you join the abuse club. The Cinnamon thing has been going ever since a pundit, Paul Merson, misproonounciaficated his name on TV. It is not intended to be "clever" - certainly not by me. The others using that sobriquet may wish to speak for themselves. Nicknames are generally terms of endearment. Mr. Simeon Jackson is a fine fellow and I`ve always said that. I think our thinking is at risk of being polluted by S\O`s sourness.

  • I keep getting ethered. Good luck to all but I do worry seeing Smith and Francomb released, what encouragement is this to Academy players? How will they ever get their chance? There's going to be a trend towards buying experience rather than developing talent and I'm not sure how sustainable this is long term. All quiet re Fox as well....

  • I guess it's the harsh cruel world of football, but for players like Adeyemi, Smith, Francomb and even Chris Martin, who have spent all their career at Norwich, it must be a tough one to take. If you take all that away, how many of them would get in the first team squad? I do feel for Adeyemi, Smith and Jackson in particular - really good lads and as everyone's saying, thanks Simeon for the Derby and Pompey goals!

  • I'm surprised by the Lee Camp decision. From the little we saw, he seemed a pretty solid candidate for second choice goal keeper if Bunn was moving away and I would have thought that Bunn's showing would have made him a good contender for a first choice slot elsewhere at a high level. Still, if Bunn wants to stay then I'm happy with that.

  • You can only sell players if another club wants to buy them. If the players are not in Citys plans why keep paying wages, save the money for new faces. Don't feel sorry for them, thats professional football. Leaf out of Avivas book then. I has been fairly obvious to everyone who shold not be retained. Should be others to go also.

On the positive side it will silence the noobs on here who call him Cinnamon instead of Simeon cos for some bizzare reason they think its clever. Or maybe they are just too stupid to spell Simeon.

  • I think Lambo signed Vaughan on a 3-year deal, richard, so he has one year left? I know "Pitbull" had a lot of injury probs (Lambo would`ve known that when he was signed) but he seems to have had a pretty good run of 30-odd games at Huddersfield and scored about a dozen goals. Also I think I read somewhere he was voted Player of the Season by the fans up there. Maybe he could still have a role to play for us? I think a fairly substantial fee was paid, read somewhere about £2million, but that may be duff info. He`s very quick - was a junior 100 metres record holder (British) I believe, or something similar! Fascinating times ahead. Will The Two Murphys, Carlton Morris, McGeehan, Toffolo et al cut the mustard? OTBC.

  • Swift and on the face of it a bit brutal. However, the players know where they stand early on - and they have more time to find themselves a new club, which shouldn't be difficult as there are some good players in this bunch. Time to move on, but thanks to all who played their part, particularly to Jackson for that great moment at Pompey.

  • I agree with mjc75 about Tom Adeyemi. At the age of 21 he's looking really good and has had over 100 start and some 130 league games. He's not cost NCFC a penny over the last 3 seasons as his loan clubs have been paying his wages. Look at how Chelsea developed Bertrand and Manu Cleverley. I bet you now he will be snapped up by a good Championship side who reap all the rewards when he ends up in the premiership in a couple of years!

Ward you could see at a middle of the road championship side but Simeon aside I think we have made a good decision to release what are in effect league 1 players. It’d be nice to Simeon sticking a few in for a decent championship side next season.

  • I'd love to see some of them given a run out, maybe the League Cup (whatever it's called) could be a way of introducing them just to get a sense of their performance on the bigger stage, so to speak. You have to have a next step strategy that has to be other than farming people out who are then at risk of losing allegiance to NCFC. Interest that Vaughan also not on the list of releasees... Or has he still a year on his contract?

I'm sure that Ayala, Barnett, Fox, Vaughan and maybe Surman are also 'available' but not for free. Jackson's goal at Pompey will live long it the memory - wish him and all the others well. Let's hope the business of acquiring new players will be done equally early. IH (&McN) WT!

  • Always sad to see some favourites leave the club. Even more interesting to see who has been retained and whether they'll figure in our 25 man Premiership squad. If you take the 18 who were involved in WBA and Man City plus the likes of Fox, Surnam, Barney, Ayala etc that doesn't leave much room for new players. Sounds like there will be some players transferred out, loaned out, or won't be named in our Premiership squad.
