Becchio was an over-age outfield player for Dale Brooks’ visitors in a line up that also featured the likes of former Chelsea academy duo Cameron McGeehan and Reiss Awuah along with Jacob Murphy. Chelsea included the highly-rated Nathan Ake plus England youth internationals Lewis Baker and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

City were indebted to ex-Chelsea youth keeper Ben Killip who produced a string of excellent stops, although the Norwich keeper was partially at fault for Jeremie Boga’s 30th minute opener before Dominic Solanke added a second prior to the interval.

Becchio’s 50th minute header from Reece Hall-Johnson’s cross reduced the deficit until Baker’s goalbound shot appeared to clip Cameron King after Norwich had failed to clear a corner.

Blues’ developemt boss Adie Viveash praised Killip’s defiance for keeping his side at bay.

“Ben made a little mistake for Boga’s goal but to recover the way he did shows a strong mentality and I’m sure that’s where he’s maturing now. He’s playing Under-21 games and he made three fantastic saves,” he told Chelsea’s official site. “I’ve coached all three of the ex-Chelsea boys so I do look at them and I’m sure it’s nice for Neil Bath (Chelsea Academy manager) to see as well. We’ve had some feisty games with Norwich in the past and that FA Youth Cup final defeat will always hurt us but we’re pleased to win again today.”

• Chelsea: Mitchell Beeney, Fankaty Dabo, Ola Aina, Andreas Christensen, Nathan Ake, Lewis Baker, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Charly Musonda, Charlie Colkett (Alex Kiwomya 63), Jeremie Boga, Dominic Solanke (Reece Mitchell 83). Subs (not used): Alex Davey, Bradley Collins, Jordan Houghton.

• Goals: Boga (30), Solanke (32), King og (62)

• Norwich: Ben Killip; Michee Efete, Harry Toffollo, Ray Grant, Nathan Fox (Louis Ramsay 64), Reiss Awuah, Jacob Murphy, Cameron McGeehan, Luciano Becchio, Cameron King (Sam Kelly 63), Reece Hall-Johnson (George Couzens 76). Subs (not used): Marcus Beauchamp, Jake Simpson.

  • Johnny, I`m surprised that one of the message boards` inveterate "insiders" hasn`t let slip a few sly clues about the true story. Mattias333 did once drop a hint about serving up Luca`s osso buco at the Colney Canteen, but not a lot else has been `revealed`. If there is any hope of an Epiphany, perhaps it is with Rab C. Buster-Bloodvessel of Radio Partridge? Becchio has wasted almost 2 seasons of his career. He`s being paid; maybe he`s not bovvered? Shame.

  • Mad Brewer, you may be on to something. It says on Wikipedia "As a child, he had a keen interest in tennis." I hope he is given a fair chance this season, if not he needs to move on sharpish before his career is over.

  • Looking at that photo of Becchs, he looks a bit like Boris Becker. Did any Germans ever escape to Argentina...? I reckon his real name is Ludwig von Becker and Macchianalli is just hiding him on behalf of Ludwig`s erstwhile pals in Sicily. Mussolining into a good bit of business. Not personal.

  • Look to the positives . Becchio scored a goal . Barnstoneworth Utd will have to up their offer now , it's all good . As this Development League allows some over-age players in the team , perhaps City should have picked Ken Nethercott as the goalie ?

  • I have always thought the LB saga strange ,if he was brought in as a exchange and CH did not want to play him why did he not let him go out on loan. Its the same with NA and why is MB not on the bench and the Hooper injury ???, we will all know all in 6 days. PS. Great result last Sat

  • That was one theory, kevncfc. Seems a crazy way of doing it. We gave Leeds about £200k, reportedly, as a balancing figure, then Becchio did not get to play. Leeds, in turn, did not rate Morison and loaned him back to Millwall. It seems to this one, on the periphery, that it might`ve been better just to release Moro from his contract. Dodgy dealings beneath the surface, possibly. The Butterfield business is similarly strange.

  • One day the secrets of the Great Hughtonian Mysteries of Becchio and Butterfield will be revealed. I cannot help finding the Becchio business baffling. He`s a proven goalscorer at Championship level, yet he`s more peripheral than Divot`s detractors and dissenters.
