Norwich City hitman Lewis Grabban is itching for the chance to form a deadly double act with fellow summer signing Kyle Lafferty.

The 26-year-old opened his goal account in the 5-1 friendly win over OGC Nice, but Lafferty again missed out with a shin injury.

Grabban was a prolific operator in the Championship last season at Bournemouth and he is convinced the Canaries’ proved against top flight French opposition they will cause plenty of teams problems this campaign.

“Going forward you can see what we are all about,” he said. “We have pace and we have so much intelligence, especially with Wes (Hoolahan) on the ball. I think we are going to be able to create a lot of chances and then it is up to the forwards to put them away. I’ve played together in training with Kyle, but it’s unfortunate we have not had a chance in a game yet. These things happen but hopefully for the start of the season we will both be right.

“It was good to be out there and to score in front of the home fans in my first game and also to get some minutes under my belt.”

Neil Adams confirmed Lafferty would be in contention for Friday’s final warm-up test against Celta Vigo if he suffered no reaction from a return to training and the City chief is excited by the partnership’s potential with Lafferty also on target in the previous wins over Dereham and Braintree.

“We’ve not had Lafferty and Grabban playing together and of course I want that to happen. After buying the two strikers you want to see them play together,” he said. “They’ve both scored goals now but one or the other has picked up an injury and they are not the only ones, but I think they will be a handful.”

  • Hope he steps up Brewer. His ability is there, however his resolve is perforated. As you've mentioned, can the real 'Captain of NCFC' please stand up? Whoever you are.

  • Not heard that one before, frankief. Though his general demeanour supports the assertion.

  • With regards to Bassong, it seemed strange that upon arrival, his first concern was to prove himself good enough to be re-signed by Spurs "some day". Inspiration not aplenty followed as he realised this was all but folly. Have a word with yourself Seb and do your job!

  • Never any mention of Bassong playing or any mention of him by the Manager, has he blotted his copy book with City or is he just past his sell by date. Certainly poor last season and made several bad decisions when on the ball.

  • I'm pretty positive with the exception of central defense where we need either reinforcements or a focused in-term Bassong back. Otherwise I think we look in good shape.

  • In the end, it`s the players that do the business. A strong leader (captain) is off the essence.

  • Brilliant! Just goes to show, the longer you chaps talk about it, the more morose you get collectively. I'm not unduly optimistic but I hope the atmosphere in the ground come match day is left to others. Sycophants of the world unite...right here!!

  • I fear that the actual manager will have little say in matters. The last proper manager we had wanted a say in matters. He didn`t get his say. He left. Neil has been in the comfort zone of Village Norwich for a long time now. He won`t leave, unless he`s pushed out.

  • That`s very logical, TK. We also need strengthening at RB IMHO, as I`m not convinced with Whittaker and he does seem to get injured a bit.

  • I with you Matt. I still think our biggest problem is going to be in defence, especially if we carrying on refusing to play Bassong. He had a very good first season with the odd blip, he blatantly could not handle being captain last year. If we cannot offload him, what is the point freezing him out, he is still entitled to a massive salary so make him earn it. Meanwhile, the club needs to find at least one more centre half, preferably with a good left foot as neither Turner or Bennett look comfortable playing to the left.

  • These two deserve the chance to form the starting striker partnership. They have both worked hard since arriving and with the youngsters backing them up should do well. I feel Hooper and RVW both have some work to do to earn a place in the side.

  • On topic. I do feel we may be getting ahead of ourselves slightly and maybe we wont quite live up to free flowing goals we've seen in pre-season, however I feel 110% better going into this season than either season under Hughton! Im a pessimist and truly hope im wrong but i've got this feeling we will finish around 8th or 9th. Get the feeling we will do a bit of a Reading and flirt with the playoffs most the season and then lose our way towards the end. Get the feeling we will lose people right near deadline day as well (this deadline and January as well) which wont help us in the slightest. Dont moan at me though, im a nice pessimist always hoping it will jinx things into a positive. ;)
