Norwich City have signed Sweden left-sided player Martin Olsson on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Blackburn Rovers.

A fee of £2.5m had been reported for Olsson, who was also linked with a switch to Carrow Road in January. He completed a medical at Carrow Road on Tuesday before becoming Chris Hughton’s third new signing of the summer.

Canaries boss Chris Hughton said: “We’re delighted with the addition of Martin. He’s been playing in England for seven years and is well acclimatised to the Premier League.

“He can also play anywhere on the left hand side so he brings us good flexibility in that sense, plus at 25 he’s at an age where he has some experience and also some time to improve.

“At this time it’s about improving the squad that we have and Martin certainly does that.”

A picture of Olsson near Norwich train station circulated the internet during Wednesday before the signing was announced.

  • Brew & Doc, on the subject of Strihavka, which incidentally is a name i really didnt expect to crop up again..ever! A Czech colleague of mine told me great things about him before he signed for us, even being given the unlikely tag of the 'Czech Van Nistelrooy' in his home country! I want to say he nodded in his only city goal against Palace at Carrow Road in a 1-0 win but might be wrong..

  • What great memories, chaps! Dublin was involved in the goal, it was at Carra Rud vs Palace and it was Havstrika`s only goal in 10 games before he gave up and went home. Or Czeched out? ;-)) SORRY. Btw, he got booked for jumping into the crowd in celebration of his achievement. Having cost €1 million (about par with £s in those days?), that has to be one of the most expensive goals we`ve ever bought! Latest on him is that he runs a pea-picking party near Peterborough weekdays and `moonlights`, improbably, as a plumber, passing himself off as a Pole in Poringland. ;-))

  • These dastardly Eastern Europeans take all the plum jobs from our eager, lean & mean workforce. Like plum picking, veg & salad picking etc. Our chaps have become allergic to fruit, salad & veg after years on a JDWetherspoon diet of all-day breakfasts and burgers. I like the Eastern Europeans; their "Footprint" is about a third of their UK equivalent, so they save space, too. UKIP success is currently mainly centred on Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, Lincs, Essex & Kent. I wonder why? Anybody remember David Strihavka (`Hav Strika)?

By they way, is there any linkage between where new players are based and where flights go to from Norwich Airport? Presumably that's why we haven't signed anyone from South America (not counting Becchio as Leeds isn't in South America in my atlas.

  • A great move with Olsson. My concern is that Toivonen seems to be different from the rest of the squad. I know that many teams have someone who unsettles the opposition but he does sound like a bit of a of a so-and-so. If the Taxi-driver's story is true, that cabbie has let himself down big-time.

I don't remember there being many coal mines in Primrose Hill and Hampstead. Now we read that 4 million people arrived during Tony and Gordon's reign. Did they take British jobs or are they living on crime and benefit proceeds ? It's got to be one or the other ?
